The Most Powerful Photo I’ve Seen This Year

Published by Nattyb at 4:30 pm under Images

Wow

We joke about things on this site quite often.  We make fun of the fictional worlds of TV, movies, and video games because well, it’s fun to do.  But even though we deal with the “unreal” on this site that doesn’t mean a very real world doesn’t exist that we’re not aware of.

And it’s pictures like this that remind me of that.

It’s very tough not to get choked up seeing something like this.

I hope things get resolved over there pretty quickly.

Pretty much sums up why we soldiers go over.

  2. Fernando Malkon 06 Jan 2010 at 7:02 pm

Photo is almost 5 years old. Do you guys really believe things got better since you arrived there on a fake war?

  3. tyleron 06 Jan 2010 at 11:19 pm

Well i dont think it was much better over there before we went in. You just never heard about it because we wasent over there you dont hear about the shit that goes on in africa why you might ask its because were not over there. And dont ever mouth the soilders because do you really think they enjoy being over there seeing that shit.

  4. Ikueon 07 Jan 2010 at 12:58 am

Being in the military, civilian, especially young civilian casualties are always hard. But I dont condone someone generalizing why were there and why things happen when we do it. Its our “job” to do what the government puts us to do. Don’t blame us. It’s all politics.

  5. RobGon 07 Jan 2010 at 3:26 am

@Ikue I agree. You shouldn’t blame the actions of a government on the soldiers themselves, like you said, you’re just doing your job and we should appreciate the courage it takes to do that. I may not 100% agree with why you’re over there but I’ll damn well hope that you and everyone else gets out of there ok and whatever turmoil that’s happening there gets resolved.
Touching pic, full on and awesomely daunting. Way to play my heartstrings nattyb, you’ve melted my icy heart with a warm calypso song.

@Ikue and RobG: I’ll be sure to use the “I’m just doing my job!” line on the officer who pulls me over for running over a child whilst delivering pizza.

Everyone says “I support the troops but not the war!”.

Well guess what people: Troops = tools of war. I don’t support the troops because the troops exist to fight and I don’t support the cause for which they fight. If the company you work for is developing a doomsday device you’re not out of moral black-territory just because it’s your job. Yes, it’s your job to be a soldier, and your job is to do what the government tells you. Well, simple solution: don’t be a soldier.

I feel no sorrow for the soldier who dies fighting a corrupt war that they *SIGNED UP* to fight. Were there a draft it wouldn’t be an issue, the soldiers would be conscripted and so they’re not just doing their “job”, they’re doing their duty as a civilian. Thank god there is no draft.

I’m not trying to say the military is evil, just that the soldiers who are fighting this war signed up voluntarily to do so. I don’t support this war and I sure as hell don’t support the tools used to fight this war if they chose to do so on their own free will.

In closing: Please Unreality, don’t try to force empathy on your readers. I come to Unreality for the entertainment, to get away from the bullshit politics and moral debates that our society is so obsessed with.

    @SirEdward

I’m just saying it was a powerful picture is all. Not trying to get all political.

  8. Cheton 07 Jan 2010 at 8:43 am

The thing is, that soldiers killed his family moment before that photo.

  9. Johnon 07 Jan 2010 at 1:32 pm

    GO ARMY
    GO NAVY
    GO AIR FORCE
    GO MARINES
    GO NATIONAL GUARD

Everyone else disrespecting the military, go away.

It is so cowardly and convenient to insult people from the comfort of your keyboard; especially people that volunteer to protect you and this country.

Have your feelings…but know that without the military being in theater overseas we would be dealing with more panty-bombers, shoe-bombers, terrorist murders, etc, right here on our homeland.

  10. Doolzon 07 Jan 2010 at 2:36 pm

Realtiy is harsh, but take a read through humanity’s history and you’ll see the long way we’ve come thus far.
@ John : It is so cowardly patriotic to support people from the comfort of your keyboard.
SirEdward is correct in that supporting the troops while not supporting the war is ridiculous.

  11. Johnon 07 Jan 2010 at 3:13 pm

Doolz…your “I’m rubber you’re glue” defense is pretty lame.

Stand on a military base and say that. Sodiers are more brave than you or I could ever hope to be. The biggest problem we face is unrealistic hippies thinking they can sing- and dance away evil people. Keep dreaming and smoking that pipe.

Evil must be killed before it kills us. “Us” I includes you and I. But I suppose the hippies would rather die.

  12. MudMarineon 07 Jan 2010 at 3:44 pm

I didn’t go ever there for their children. I went over their for mine. Sorry for being selfish or if that offends you.

    No, I’m not really sorry…..

    Semper Fi.

  13. FrankenPCon 07 Jan 2010 at 4:15 pm

That picture is one of millions and still millions to come. I would argue that everyone is wrong about the apocalypse dates. It’s already happening.

  14. Fernando Malkon 07 Jan 2010 at 5:05 pm

@Ikue SirEdward already said what my point was. The problem is they got there for lame reasons and now the shit is on them and the people taking collateral damage, like this kid.
@John it takes courage to be a soldier, true, but it’s also cowardice to use this courage to do fake wars that is gonna end nowhere, and justify yourself like “i’m just doing my job”.
I just wonder why americans don’t understand it’s this kind of attitude that brings hate and terrorism over you borders. Your government decides to do a “political” war, uncalled for, of course you’re gonna piss off some crazy people, who will react any way they can.

I wonder where Fernando Malk is from.

Pray for our troops folks…I have a buddy in Afghanistan who has been in 3 IED attacks and its changed him beyond repair…he cant do sporting events, bars, clubs, or any of the things a young man should be able to enjoy because of the trauma and that was just from his first tour of 7 months…the 3rd IED attack he lost his four comrades, buddies, and friends that were in the assault vehicle and he suffered a concussion that makes it so he cant remember a day before he was nine years old…so for all you assholes getting on here talking shit about the troops get lost or GTFO!!!! it has effected many ppls lives and its not just the soldiers who are there but their friends familes and any loved ones….Jeff I love you stay safe

  17. bushROXon 07 Jan 2010 at 9:10 pm

lol @ all of the people who think they are protecting their country against “evil”

you do realise that america’s involvement in the last 4 wars was completely manufactured in order to make large profits for the country?

oh don’t they tell you that part in the military training…..

your not in a movie, there is no such thing as evil and good in the real world

if some other country invaded america and started walking around shooting your families you’d want to suicide bomb them too wouldnt you?

  18. Ikueon 07 Jan 2010 at 10:19 pm

@Everyone. I understand all your points of view. Before joining the military, even the Marines at that, I disliked the government and everything that fell under it. It’s all a matter of prespective and your opinions. You are all entitled. The point of what I’m trying to say is that regardless of your job in life, it is what it is.

  19. HUTCHon 08 Jan 2010 at 1:43 am

Chet, way to show complete ignorance… maybe you could research just a bit before making flip comments.

i don’t see why everybody has to try to insult the other person’s view…just respect their view and present yours respectfully
