“That Guy” Actor of the Week: Jon Polito

Polito

He’s known for his bald head and raspy voice but I’d be willing to bet you didn’t know his name was Jon Polito.  Well now you do!  I actually have a long history with Mr. Polito.  Way back in 1986 I can literally remember him in a tough guy role as a pseudo policeman/boss in a movie called Fire with Fire which was this wacky love story featuring a young Craig Scheffer and Virginia Madsen.  Polito’s character was a bully and kind of a badass who loved his gun.

Polito’s characters always tend to be kind of “dirty” which suits him well considering his build, voice, and overall demeanor.  He’s a staple in many Coen brothers movies and was of course in an episode of Seinfeld as a dirty landlord named Silvio.

On a side note, I saw Polito about 4 months ago in a supermarket here in NYC.  Unfortunately I didn’t hear him speak but I am 100% sure it was him.

In any event, I just want to pay hommage to Polito because this guy has appeared in television and movies for close to 30 years now.  So the next time you see that bald head and hear that raspy voice, you’ll know it’s Jon Polito.

P.S. – Amazingly enough there’s a Jon Polito comedy compilation video which you are about to see.

Classic.

He’s the private eye in the Big Lebowski, isn’t he?

He was in Homicide: Life on the street.

Which reminds me, is it possible for Tom Fontana to make something that is not TOTALLY awesome?
