OK folks.  I’ve seen the commercials.  I’ve said this in the past and I’ll say it again.  I’m a little tired of Michael Cera.  I liked him in Superbad and that’s about it.  I just don’t buy his high voice and starting to become older and uglier looks.  And now we have him developing an alter ego?  Really?  And people are going to see Youth in Revolt?

The story of Nick Twisp (Cera), a unique, but affable teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini who falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited Sheeni Saunders (Doubleday). But family, geography and jealous ex-lovers conspire to keep these two apart. With Sheeni’s encouragement, Nick abandons his dull, predictable life and develops a rebellious alter ego: Francois

Let’s talk about this a little more….

If you’re going to do a split personality comedy you better damned well pull it off.  To my knowledge the only funny movie I saw with a split personality was Me, Myself, and Irene.  And honestly I didn’t think the alter ego Hank was all that funny.  To me, it was Carrey’s three sons that stole the show in that flick.  I just felt like Hank was a little over the top and not that entertaining.  Just dumb slapstick type stuff.  Sure some lines were decent but overall, not a fan.

So that brings me to my next point.  Personally I think alter ago stuff is way better for dramas.  It was amazing in Primal Fear and thrillers/serious movies are just way better genres to introduce a character with a split personality.

I mean does anyone buy Cera being some lame French guy named Francois?  Smoking cigarettes and a thin mustache?  I’m sorry but I’d rather stick with anything that Danny McBride is in.

Comedies really suck these days and I’m starting to get very impatient.
