Go See Avatar

I’d like to take my weekend post slot to simply tell you to go see Avatar. I’m fearful that due to bad buzz surrounding the trailers, this won’t have the opening weekend it deserves, and only through word of mouth will actually end up being the blockbuster it should.

Well, consider this word of mouth. While not flawless, it is one of the most important movies ever made, and I’m on my way now to see it again for that reason. However silly you thought it looked, get over it, and I promise you’ll have a good time. I’ll have a full review on Monday for you.

I’ve been lurking here in unrealitymag for a while and never posted anything. But for this one feel compelled to.

I just watched Avatar last night in IMAX 3D here in Vancouver. Me and my 7 friends all work in the CG industry and we all have really high standarts and critic eye for visual effects. We left the theater after the credits rolled, in silence, speechless.

This is how amazing the movie is.

Go. Watch it. In IMAX 3d. Doesn’t matter which background you have, you will be marveled.

Can’t wait for your review Paul.

I’m eagerly awaiting your review for Monday so that I can find out why you think it is “one of the most important movies ever made.” So much so, that you felt compelled to see it a second time. I saw it Friday night in 3D. Technically, this movie is spellbinding, spectacular, wondrous…I’ll give my full response after your review.

Avatar was one of THE MOST amazing movies I have ever seen. I dare to meet someone that wasn’t moved by it. If Fern Gully and Star Wars had a baby, that baby would be Avatar. GO SEE IT

uhh, now my expectations are high. I’ll see it tomorrow

Fully agree. The movie is absolutely amazing. Saw it in 3D Friday night, and am planning on hitting up an IMAX 3D showing of it ASAP. I’ll probably see it at least twice more in theaters.

See it on the big screen. See it in 3D.

I believe I have seen the future of blockbuster cinema…and it is good.

I have a good feeling about this. In my town it was 3/4 full at at 7p, showing which seemed a bit small…but I have great expectations that WOM will make this the winter hit. We didnt have in 3d IMAX near but I will be travelling with a few friends the day after christmas…I could tell it would’ve been 1000 times greater in imax.

Well, I was planning on skipping this in the theaters, but after your praise, I will go see the Imax 3D version. Now if I can convince the wife to go with me…

Am I the only person who didn’t think Avatar was the second coming of Christ.

    Pros:

    - Amazing CGI.
    - For what they were given, the actors did the best they could

    Cons:

    - Cliche out of the wazoo (both story line and dialog)
    – “this is not Kansas any more” (LOL)
    – “we will fight terror with terror” (ROFL) while not cliche, but come on, I’m a liberal, but really?
    – weak villan, I mean really, there is nothing on the colonel’s mind but to destroy the noble native people. it makes me laugh in its simplicity.

    Bottom Line:

Call me a nerd, but I’ve seen this kind of presentation a thousand times in anime. Why spend 300 million dollars with real people when you could have done the same with just animation in less than 1/3 of the budget. It’s easy to be impressed by the technical aspect of the film, but a film in the end is about a story. When the initial amazement wears off, Avatar is nothing but Pochahontas in space.
