UK ‘Guitar Hero’ Rise to Stardom Commercial is Ultimately Tragic

I think this commercial for a UK Guitar Hero/Doritos promotion is incredibly well made, but it’s one of the saddest ads I’ve seen in quite some times. It tells the story of an average loser who dreams of being a rock god, but lacks any of the musical talent, and so he’s stuck in a series of dead end jobs that he ends up fired from because he can’t control his rock and roll urges. Ultimately he finds his calling in life, which is dressing up like a member of Fallout Boy and playing Guitar Hero in his mom’s living room.

It’s more of a story of self-delusion and despair and is almost insulting to potential Guitar Hero customers. Are you a complete loser, but wish you were something greater that you can ultimately never be? Pretend for a few minutes with Guitar Hero!

Very well done ad, but achieving the desired result? I don’t think so.
