Actors Return to their Most Iconic Roles for Empire’s 20th
Whoa.
I’ve seen some excellent photo galleries in my time, but I think this one takes the cake by a mile. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, UK film mag Empire called in every favor they had to assemble the best actors in the world to come and reprise their most famous roles for a photoshoot that can really only be described as legendary.
I can’t really say any more about this that the pictures can’t say themselves. Check the full gallery out after the jump, and click on any of them to make them bigger.
Mel Gibson in Braveheart
Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity
Christian Bale in American Psycho
Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen in Lord of the Rings
Tom Cruise in Minority Report
Gerard Butler in 300
Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman in Unforgiven
Laurence Fishburne in The Matrix
Keira Knightley and James Macavoy in Atonement
Jack Nicholson in uh, everything
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in Harry Potter
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator
Michael Sheen in The Queen
Kevin Spacey in Se7en
Ben Stiller in Zoolander
Sam Neil in Jurassic Park
Wishlist, because I’m greedy:
Harrison Ford as Indy and/or Han Solo
Sigourney Weaver as Ripley
Russell Crowe as Maximus
All of the James Bonds together
But seriously, an epic project all around.

More Unreal Posts

So well done. I’d have liked to have seen some Michael Beihn, but he’s not nearly as big as the rest of these guys. Maybe the cast of Pulp Fiction.
Wow, this is sick. How about William Zabka from Karate Kid?
haha, nice!!
3 people I have to comment on:
Matt Damon is just sitting there.
Laurence Fishburne looks really gay.
Of all of these, with those legs, Emma Watson is the one who I can’t imagine in her role the most.
What a brilliant photo shoot, I can’t believe it took someone this long to think to do it. Or more likely, convince all the celebs to do it. I agree with Madison, the cast of Pulp fiction would’ve been great, but I would’ve rather seen the cast from Reservoir dogs. Also, I would love to see Malcolm McDowell as Alex again. But that might bring back the nightmares.
tom cruise’s most famous role is “minority report”…. i don’t think so.

Thanks so much for posting this.
Made my day!
Christian Bale’s most iconic role is Patrick Bateman? Lose the “e” in Bateman and you’re getting much closer!

for Tom Cruise, the better option would’ve been Top Gun
Some of these were honestly terrible and not at all “legendary”.
Main offender being harry potter… The series isn’t even finished yet, is it?
someone had to say it…if only heath ledger as the joker could be on this list.
All of these look really good. Though I have to say, Matt Damon, anyone could have rolled up that magazine. But I guess rolling the shit outta that magazine is what makes him…?
great pictures! while I don’t usually like movies with zombies and such … loved ‘Shaun of the Dead’!
and that little video of the car parking … brilliant!
I think these are great pictures. Awesome actually.
I have a problem with there being only 2 actresses represented, and neither in a shoot by herself. There have been tons of women in really awesome roles, and they’re not here. Seriously, where are the women? Why are they so under represented here? Where’s Meryl Streep? Where’s Cate Blanchett? Kate Winslet? Nicole Kidman? Laura Linney? Hillary Swank? Charlize Theoron? Emma Thompson? Judi Dench? So many amazing actresses, and only 2 in this huge “legends” shoot?
Wtf? How is Minority Report Tom Cruise’s most iconic role? What happened to Jerry Maguire? Mission Impossible?
what a collection man . gerat peace of work …. totally auwsum lovin it….
I don’t know how Ben Stiller managed to get that iconic stupid look back again, but hilarious seeing it… Lawrence Fishburne always a legend, and Kevin Spacey always…. just a bit creepy.
Great Pics!
Very cool.
Matt Damon sat in jeans and t-shirt is hardly returning to his legendary role…
Tom Cruise most Iconic role to me is the role of maverick in top gun
Arnie is still The Man
The chair kills Fishburne’s shoot for me. It’s a shadow of what the movie prop was.
nice idea, but seriously: the photos are horrible.
the ones of matt damon for example… this is just no good photography.

Sorry for the nightmares…

Keanu Reeves – Neo
Helen Mirren – Queen Elizabeth II
Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp – Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett (best example of a great film with them together)
Sir Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn – Professor X, Storm, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Mystique
Will Ferell and Christina Applegate – Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone
Mike Meyers – Austin Powers
Charlize Theron – Eileen Wournos
Kate Beckinsdale – Selene
Milla Jokovich – Alice
Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta – Jules Winnifred, Vincent Vega
Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu – Beatrix Kiddo, Oren-Ishi
Catherine Zeta Jones, Queen Latifah – Velma Kelly, Matron Mama Morton
al pacino as scarface, robert de niro as the bull or the taxi driver, val kilmer as either ice man or doc holliday, anthony hopkins and jodi foster from silence of the lambs, bruce willis from die hard, robin williams from either patch adams or good morning vietnam, clint eastwood in a fistful of dollars or dirty harry, …
I WANT THAT SWORD SO BADLY
Uhhhhhh Stubbed……..
If you’ve ever seen the Bourne movies, you would know what the rolled up magazine means. It means he’s gonna kick your ass with it. And I really liked the Sam Neil one. Jurassic Park FTW.
This is the best thing I’ve seen in my life!
This is the best photo shoot my eyes have ever laid on.
Would have loved to see something for De Niro or Pacino or maybe both together in a picture reprise “Heat”.
Harrison Ford as Indiana.
Hanks in Road To Perdition.
Richard & Julia in Pretty Woman.
Michael Jay Fox & Chris Lloyd in Back To The Future.
Robert Englund as Fredrick Kruger.
Michael Keaton as Batman.
Bruce Willis in Die Hard.
Sigourney Weaver in Aliens.
Damn, there are a lot of other great movies.
Feed Me A Stray Cat.
Yes! Patrick Bateman lives again. Too cool. So glad they didn’t go with Batman, that’s too prosaic. Any true fan of Christian knows that American Psycho was one of his best earliest roles that is a cult classic. He only became well known in the US because of Batman.
Very cool that they got all the celebs to relive some iconic roles, but the set design is atrociously dull and you can see the masking tape on the ground and things are off framed. Poor photography, but still epic to see everyone.
The harry potter and bourne identity ones are just lazily put together. Paper airplanes are wizardly?
And agreed about Tom Cruise. Minority Report is the last movie I associate with him.
Be greedy all you want, but Harrison hates reliving old roles. He’d never agree to doing the photo shoot. Would be groovy tho.
I am fairly sure that a large number of these movies are from the 21st Century
Y’know, why HASN’T someone gotten all the James Bonds together in one room at the same time? That would be an amazingly awesome portrait! And yeah, Tom Cruise really should have been Top Gun’ing it in his picture.
Lots of good suggestions here. I especially like the one about getting all the Bonds together. That would be great. I’d also like to see….
1. Cast of Star Wars
2. Cast of Star Trek (original)
3. Cast of Aliens
4. Sly Stallone (Rocky or Rambo)
5. Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump)
6. Kevin Costner & Connery (Untouchables)
7. Gene Hackman (Hoosiers)
8. Sean Astin (Rudy)
9. Kurt Russell (Escape From NY)
10. Morgan Freeman & Tim Robbins (Shawshank)
They should have done Kirgo for Kevin Spacey, he’s got a sense of humor I’m sure he would have been down.

You dumb people, legendary mean old roles… how are you gonna use batman or some new movie? the idea is from old papers, is not like using dicaprio for inception since its a recent movie
