Bryan Singer Returning in Shame Back to X-Men

Bryan Singer has had a decidedly downward trajectory in the quality of his films over his relatively short career. His debut, The Usual Suspects, is thought to be one of the greatest crime dramas ever. His first two forays into X-Men were pretty great, but his take on Superman was yawn worthy. Lastly, his doomed project, Valkyrie was self destructed by its own star, Tom Cruise, so I can’t really blame Singer for that.
But realizing he needs to return to a franchise that people loved him for, Singer is now talking with Fox to come back to direct more X-Men movies. Now whether that means a Wolverine sequel, Magneto, First Class or X4, I’m not sure, but I’ll take Singer over Brett Ratner and Gavin Hood any day. I would prefer him to handle the new Wolverine movie, as the “Wolvie-goes-to-Japan” storyline was excellent in the comics, and would make a great film is done RIGHT, something I know isn’t possible for Gavin Hood.
So what do you think about Singer’s possible return? It seems like sort of a fail out to me, as he doesn’t really have any new ideas for projects after his last few failings, and now he’s doing the safe thing by coming back to X-Men. Any halfway competent director can make a good X-Men movie, because they’re mutants, and they’re awesome. That’s half the movie right there.

With Xavier alive after X-3, X-4 wouldn’t be bad. You could possibly bring back Famke as Phoenix, claiming the spirit saved her, but they did that in X-2 and forever ruined the hopes of an accurate potrayal of the Phoenix saga. And the way they were talkin about the Magneto film sounded quite rocky. So idk?
Eh, I’d be fine with it, mostly because I was a big fan of X2, and would have loved to see Singer at the helm of X3, see what he could have done with it instead of that idiot Ratner. Although I also thought Valkyrie was pretty good, Cruise aside. Superman Returns, not so much.
Look, Singer’s not Spielberg or Nolan or anything, but he’s also pretty capable. He’s pretty good at times, too. Singer helming X-men is a good thing.
I would love to see “Alex Proyas” who directed Dark City, do a darker (no pun intended) type X-Men series. Darker may not sell as much but it lends itself more to the X-Men series. In reality, it’s a pretty violent world. Once can only dream.
X-Men? Violent? Not gonna happen.
