You’re Telling Me that Wasn’t the Season Finale of ‘The Office’?

The Office is one of the most poorly planned shows on television. Two years ago, they decided that it was time for Jim and Pam to get together, and never have them be apart. I fully believe that yes, they should be together, but you’re telling me after three seasons of will-they/won’t-they, you’re ready to call it a day? Have you ever even SEEN Friends?
Last night was the wedding of Jim and Pam, who is now also conveniently pregnant, effectively sealing the deal forever. It wasn’t the series finale (which Jim and Pam’s wedding always should have been), it wasn’t even the season finale. It was just an hour-long episode in the middle of season six.
The annoyance of Jim and Pam’s new “perfect” relationship was summed up in a few scenes, most notably, the “mental pictures” which was not cute, and Jim cutting off his tie in empathy, which was even less cute. Fortunately, the entire episode was saved by dancing, the one thing The Office has realized, after Cafe Disco, can make any episode better (and it was actually the second dance sequence of the episode, after Andy’s in-room party). The only thing that made the aisle dance OK here, is because Michael went out of his way to say, “This was on YouTube!” Let’s ignore that it makes no sense for the entire office to do it, as they’re most definitely not the wedding party, it was a lot of fun.
The rest of the episode? Dwight being an ass to a hot girl marks the second time that’s happened (the girl basketball players in New York). It was really sad to see Michael watch Dwight get everything he’s ever wanted and then throw it away like it was nothing. But the pairing of Michael and Pam’s mom? Dear Lord, that was brilliant, and this is going to make for a pretty damn funny rest of the reason, as surely Michael will start referring to Jim and Pam as his kids. Although a bit strange when you remember that Michael tried to kiss Pam during Diwali.
So overall it was a good episode, but it started its way at the bottom (I’m adding the intro vomiting scene to my over the top Office moments list), but it crawled its way up from there, and ended with a feel-good montage that is actually a first in Office history. The only good part about this not being a season finale? Now we’ve still got the rest of the season to look forward to. And now, I know what the new series finale will be. Mark my words: The wedding of Michael Scott.

Best part ever: Dwight in the 3 Wolf Moon t-shirt…so awesome.
I felt like this was a pretty weird episode. It did feel like a season (or series) finale. Some parts were pretty funny, but I hate that they are frequently going for the slapstick route instead of their more classic (and effective) awkward humor. There was some of that, but the slapstick moments were far more prevalent.
Maybe your Y chromosome kept you from enjoying the episode in the same way I did, but the mental pictures moments (including the tie scene) were ADORABLE.
Jim and Pam have always had a sappy element to their relationship, and if that was ignored completely it would have made the marriage episode seem cold and insincere.
The office really isnt a show to me anymore. It’s really is as if I’m watching real people go about their average and normal lives with some not so normal people around.
Which makes me think…I wonder what the people who watch the documentary in THEIR universe think knowing all those people really exist and are doing all those things? That’s how I try and view the show. And if Pam and Jim were real people I would be glad they were together. And if Michael was a real person I would probably want to kick his ass.
I disagree. A few seasons ago, I thought the Jim and Pam thing was too sappy, schticky, and taking too long. I was really pleased by this episode though. I thought the mental pictures and the tie scene were sweet — it’s really refreshing to see an on-screen couple that really, unquestioningly loves each other. There’s no drama in their relationship, there’s nothing that comes between them, and I hope this doesn’t change. Honestly after 10 years of “when will Rachel and Ross finally tie the knot for good?” this Jim&Pam dynamic is refreshing.
I thought the aisle dancing was cool, but lasted a bit too long. It didn’t make sense, but it was fun to watch the cast let loose a little bit.
Dwight in the 3 wolf shirt was classic, a great reference to the zeitgeist. I also really liked the twins scene (Michael Scott: “I mean, twins! You understand.”)
