The Final Countdown: Phrases with Different Meaning, Sibling Does Porn, and Boondock Saints

The reason for English’s massive vocab list is that ours is a very inclusive language, meaning it has been able to absorb words from foreign tongues with relative ease.  As such we all get a little confused from time to time and say some things we think we mean but really don’t.

Whoops, I Missed the ‘South Park’ Premiere

Published by Paul Tassi under Television, Videos

I was so caught up in drinking writing last night that I completely forgot to set my DVR to record the South Park premiere. Fortunately, we no longer live in the Stone Age and I can watch the entire thing here at South Park Studios.

From this clip I gather it tackled the recent giant string of celebrity deaths we’ve had this year, and I’m sure it managed to offend just about anyone. Any of you who saw it, how was it? In my opinion South Park has been struggling for a while, but started to come back near the end of last season.

Tauntaun Sleeping Bags Are Real, Soon to be Buyable

Published by Paul Tassi under Images, Movies, Oddly Enough

tauntaun.jpg

I guess it’s “awesome products day” here on Unreality, because I couldn’t resist posting this picture, along with the info that yes, you will actually be able to BUY a Tauntaun sleeping bag via ThinkGeek in the not-too-distant future.

This is of course wasted on this little kid in the picture, who doesn’t know the heritage here, but still, how amazing is that intestine printed lining?

Warning: Will not actually protect against Hoth-type winters.

British People Love to Lie About Seeing Movies, Especially “The Godfather” Series

Published by Nattyb under News

Godfather

Have you ever lied about seeing a movie?  I can’t really recall any reason I’d ever have done so.  Maybe to get someone off my back but even then I’m pretty sure I haven’t.  The Brits on the other hand….

A survey suggests “The Godfather” and its sequels are the classic films Britons are the most likely to claim to have seen without actually watching the movies.

The survey, conducted by Orange mobile phone company, found one in five respondents admitted telling people they had seen Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning 1972 film and is sequels despite having never seen them, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday

Twenty percent huh?  Wow. Other movies they also lied about seeing?  Rocky, Dirty Dancing, Shawshank Redemption, Gone with the Wind, and Citizen Cane.  Has anyone heard of this?  Am I missing something here?

Like, is this part of their culture?  And I’ll do my best to be delicate with phonetics.   Is a mother saying to her children

“Whot eva yu do, downt leht those peopoll theenk yew’ve nevah seen the following movies….”  Is this like a rite of passage for the youth of Britain.? As long as people think you’ve seen Godfather you’re in the clear?

Man I wish life were that simple.

The World’s Coolest Lawn Ornament

Published by Paul Tassi under Images, Video Games

piranha-plant.jpg

Sadly no, the garden piranha plant isn’t being mass produced for public consumption, but it’s still awesome to behold nonetheless. It was made by Deviantartist Jaime Margary, and you can see more picture of it here.

No word if Jaime is planning any future projects, but I would say that a metal forged Bullet Bill or Chain Chomp would be very doable, and a lot easier than this was to make. but if you want to go more organic I’d say a life size Koopa or Goomba would be pretty neat as well.

15 Funny Signs with Changed Lines

Published by Nattyb under Oddly Enough

Changed Signs

As many of you know, we here at Unreality are big fans of people who have an ability to use Photoshop.  I’m not even saying that ability has to be all that great.  It just has to be funny.

But what about people who haven’t quite learned photoshop yet?  Why that’s no problem at all!  Because these people can simply take a marker and do whatever they want to real stuff, not pictures.

Well at least this crowd is thinking that.

Here are 15 real signs that got “altered” quite nicely

The Joker Blogs: The Complete Series

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies, Videos

joker-blogs.jpg

Apparently these have been around for quite a while, but I just stumbled upon The Joker Blogs recently, and I have to say, they’re pretty damn cool. They’re meant to be a series of tapes recorded by Dr. Harleen Quinzel right after the Joker’s imprisonment in Arkham following the end of The Dark Knight, kind of like something you might have found in the Arkham Asylum video game.

I’ve heard mixed reactions to the lead actor’s portrayal of Ledger’s Joker. I think his makeup his dead on, and his lines are very well written, but his voice is a bit off. However, I promise you will get used to it by episode three, right around where things start to get interesting. If you don’t like the first one, I suggest you push through, I think this ends up being a rather cool little series overall.

14 of the Coolest Custom Xbox Controllers and Mods

Published by Madison under Images, Video Games

 analog.jpg

Personally, I’m just fine sitting back and playing Xbox with any old wireless controller.  So long as it fits in my hand properly, the buttons are where they’re supposed to be, and all the buttons work, I’ll be just fine.  It doesn’t matter what my controller looks like.

There are a lot of creative people for whom the controller does matter, though.  And if they think the standard controller isn’t good enough, they’ll customize or mod it, sometimes with spectacular results.   It’s tough to not be impressed by some of the customizations and mods I found, which you can view after the jump.  Enjoy 14 of the coolest custom Xbox controllers and mods:

The Morning Link: Self Destructive Ways People Cured Themselves

Published by Nattyb under Morning Link

Gun

Sometimes people do things that are less than brilliant. For every Joseph Lister developing important advances in sterile surgery, there is a Randy Quaid sticking lit firecrackers into his own urethra.

But every now and then the fates grant those who flagrantly disregard their own well-being with a second chanceCheck out 5 Self destructive ways people actually cured themselves
