Alright, So ‘Clash of the Titan’s Might Be Awesome

This is the cover of the latest issue of Empire, and it’s gotten me more pumped for Clash of the Titans than anything else thus far. It looks be in the vein of 300, although with a great deal more monsters and mythology behind it.

I’m going to reserve judgment until I at least get to see a trailer, but if all goes to plan, this should be a pretty badass action flick, and might cement Sam Worthington as a worthy leading man. Oh wait, Avatar’s supposed to do that. I guess we’ll see if that actually happens.

The only problem I immediately foresee with this movie is director Louis Leterrier, who has thus far led projects such as The Incredible Hulk and The Transporter 2. Gulp.

    from the article
“This is not what people originally though, another 300, insists Worthington . This is a romp. We’ve been trying to make it funnier. Orignally they were saying, it’s gonna be gritty like Gladiator; dirty and brutal. It is dirty, but only because we’re in a mud mine! It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be buoyant”
    “It’s a family movie” adds Leterrier…

Overall the article made it sound pretty dull but it does look to have some good visuals judging by the pics.

I just can’t get behind anything directed by Leterrier. At most, it’ll be fun, if it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

I would think Leterrier was a decent director if I hadn’t known that The Incredible Hulk was only half as incredible as it could have been; Leterrier ended up cutting out nearly all of Edward Norton’s rewrites. If you know anything about American History X, you’ll know that that movie was so much Norton that the director asked for their name to be removed from the movie. When Norton takes over, that movie becomes his. He rewrites everything and demands that things be shot his way. Leterrier seems to have wanted to keep his vision intact and cut out Norton’s stuff.

Of course, he directed the first two Transporter films. The second one was mindless action but the first one was actually pretty good. I’m excited for this film.

Leterrier is a very hit-or-miss director. I personally really like the Incredible Hulk, (though I would like to see a Norton cut at some point, if footage exists) the Transporter, and Unleashed (Danny the Dog,) but Transporter 2 SUCKED. This could be OK, though I’m not really interested right now. I’ll wait to see previews and reviews before I decide.
