‘Ong Bak 2′ US Trailer Hits, Literally

Published by Paul Tassi at 1:00 pm under Movies, Trailers

Maybe I need to watch it again, but I got my hands on a copy of Ong Bak 2 months ago and I was thoroughly less than impressed. Yes, the action is awesome, but it’s one of the most poorly conceived stories I’ve ever seen on film, so much so that it actually distracts from all the ass kicking.

I’m also perplexed as to why it’s called “Ong Bak 2” considering is has absolutely NOTHING to do with the original movie. I guess that yes, it’s about two Thai guys who are crazy good at martial arts, and maybe one is the ancestor of the other (though that’s never mentioned), but why is it a sequel then? Do they not understand over that “2” means “comes after” in the world of film? They should have gone with “Ong Bak: Origins.”

Anyways, that being said, it is very much worth seeing for the action alone, and I guess in the end, that’s all we can really ask for out of Tony Jaa.

I can see how a lack of story is a distraction, but Jaa’s movies Ong Bak and The Protector both had pretty worthless stories and I still loved them. His fight and stunt scenes are AMAZING, especially since he doesn’t use wirework. I really pity his stuntmen, because the impacts are convincing enough to make me think they actually get hit a lot.

Also it says that this one is called Ong Bak: the beginning, so that makes sense that it is a prequel
