‘Paranormal Activity’ is So Scary, It Will Literally Kill You

I’d never heard word one about this movie until right this second, but apparently low-budget horror flick Paranormal Activity is being heralded as one of the scariest movies ever made. In this trailer which features audience reactions and critic quotes, people look like they’re going to have a heart attack right on the spot. Once this thing goes wide release, I’m sure we’ll hear of a few theater deaths.

So what’s it about? Ghosts haunting a bedroom. I can’t really remember the last time a ghost movie was scary, and I’ve seen enough Ghost Hunters on TLC to not be scared of these things anymore, but there’s something about this movie that just has gotten under people’s skin. It’s expanding to the below select cities on September 25th. Thankfully, I happen to live in one of them. If you guess correctly, I’ll give you $20.

Austin (Alamo Draft House)

Seattle (Neptune)

Ann Arbor, Michigan (State)

Durham, North Carolina (Southpoint 16)

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (RAVE Mall of Louisiana 15)

Boulder, Colorado (Cinemark 16)

Columbus, Ohio (Studio 35)

Orlando, Florida (AMC Universal Cineplex)

Madison, Wisconsin (Marcus Eastgate 16)

Santa Cruz, California (Del Mar 3)

State College, Pennsylvania (Premiere College 9)

Tucson, Arizona (El Con)

Lincoln, Nebraska (Ross Media Center)

If this movie is scary, I’ll eat my own crap. This movie seems so boring and lame, it will really literally kill you. (Cool blog though, I read it every day.)

Do you live in Austin? That would be cool, because that’s where I live.

Santa Cruz? That’s a really random place, wonder why it’d be playing there…

This reminds me of the hyper surrounding the “Blaire Witch Project” when it was an internet phenomenon before it was in the theaters, back when people thought it might have been real. Without the possibility it was real Blaire Witch was lame. This movie looks lame from the trailer, but might check it out, especially since I’m lucky enough to live in one of those cities. Thanks for the entry about it Paul!

I saw it and i like horror movies and yes it was scary. It was almost comicly scary at some points but there are a few scenes which are skin crawling. The only thing that bothered me is all the people claiming that its real when its obviously fake since both are on imdb and the girl has been in anothe rmovie

Durham, NC? You’d be just a few minutes from me if you do.

  20. Paul Tassion 16 Oct 2009 at 8:37 pm

    @Sylvia

Yep, that’s me, but no, not Michigan State. Michigan. Very important difference.

    Columbus Ohio?

I loved Paranormal Activity. I saw Blair Witch when that first came out and it just didn’t do it for me. The whole cinematography part did not impress me, but I found that Paranormal Activity did it right. However some of my friends disagree with me and say that while PA was a good movie, BWP was a much better overall product especially given that it helped to establish a completely new sub-genre. We cant seem to come to terms so I made a little poll to show them what the rest of the world thinks, please take a minute to vote: http://www.dipoll.com/index.php?poll_id=555

Good story Paul, love to see all the press that PA is getting with such a small production budget!

1.) Ghost Hunters is on the Syfy channel not TLC.

2.) Paranormal Activity was not the least bit frightening or suspenseful what. so. ever. Complete over-hype.

  25. Anonon 03 Mar 2010 at 12:46 pm

    So Lame.. too over rated.

  26. Williamon 07 Oct 2010 at 9:32 pm

The least scary, most overhyped, most absolutely rubbish horror film of all time, almost.

In our country the rating was changed from M (equivalent of a PG-13) to R16 (no, you can’t come with your parents) because the ratings office received emails of complaint about the film’s horror with 13 year olds parents writing those letters. As a 13-year-old I can safely say this wasn’t even remotely scary.

I know for a fact the sequel is going to make megabucks at the box office… groan.
