Sega is…Learning from Their Mistakes?

After years upon years of just absolutely horrendous Sonic games (Sonic as a werewolf? Sure, OK), it seems that Sega might finally have learned a lesson or two from their sales of refurbished 2D Genesis Sonic games over XBLA and WiiWare. That’s evidenced in this teaser trailer that hints at what could be a brand new, 2D adventure for Sonic, in glorious HD.

There seems to be a rising school of thought in the video game industry, that just because we CAN make three dimensional games after the days of SNES and Genesis, that doesn’t mean we HAVE to. That’s evidenced everywhere from Braid to World of Goo to Scribblenauts to Street Fighter IV. I didn’t think Sega had the smarts left in them to do something like this, but it appears they’ve got a few tricks left up their sleeves.

Next up, a new console? Hah.

I hope this new awakening continues. Shadow Complex is the perfect example of a game that can thrive in 2D.
