10 Funny Character Deaths in Movies

Gun

Death is obviously a pretty serious subject but it doesn’t always have to be.  As Robin Williams once said in Patch Adams:

What’s wrong with death sir? What are we so mortally afraid of? Why can’t we treat death with a certain amount of humanity and dignity, and decency, and God forbid, maybe even humor?  Death is not the enemy gentlemen.

And in that light, I’m glad some movies do in fact treat death with a little bit of humor.  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

So here are 10 funny character deaths in movies (with video evidence)

The Model Fire in Zoolander

First of all, this entire scene, hell the entire movie is amazing.  But when these guys are having a “gas fight” using well…gasoline you have to laugh your ass off when the whole place explodes.

Blue in Old School

No better way to die than squaring off against two topless girls who are oiled up and about 1/4 of your age.

Hot Tomale Death in Dumb and Dumber

How’s your burger?  Pills are good.  Pills are gooooood.   We could also go with the death fight scene

Chubbs in Happy Gilmore

After all that time, it looks like the Alligator got him after all.

The Exploding Head in Big Trouble in Little China

While this movie might have been considered an action movie, I really think it was a comedy.  And when that dude’s head blows up it’s pretty funny.

Aunt Edna - Vacation

Nothing more memorable than when the Griswald’s drove with Edna on top of that car and then simply left a note.

The Hunting Accident in Hot Shots

Sure, survive your plane going down but watch out for those hunters after your head looks like a deer.

Battle of Wits in Princess Bride

Vizzini thinks that he is the smart one but he doesn’t get the last laugh.  “Never mess with a Sicilian when death is on the line!”

Marvin in Pulp Fiction

Perhaps the most funny unintentional death in movie history.

The One Shot Shot in Raiders of the Lost Ark

Probably one of the most classic and quickest fight scenes in action movie history.

These are all great, but for me, nothing beats the one in Raiders.

I thought I read somewhere that Harrison Ford was actually supposed to fight the guy with a sword, but was really sick or dehydrated or something, so they decided he just shoot the guy instead.

    @ Laura

That may be true; I’ve read the same thing. Funny.

Yeah, Harrison was sick (from being exhausted / dehydrated) and he didn’t want to do the big, choreographed scene they had planed. Apparently he just turned to Steven Spielberg and said “what don’t we just shoot the fucker?”. HA HA HA HA! CLASSIC !!!!

Princess Bride is one of the greatest films of all time. Man do I love me some Princess Bride.

What about in dodgeball when Patches O’Houlihan is crushed by the luck of the Irish sign?

Funniest death scene has to go to Sam Jackson in Deep Blue Sea. That one scene makes the entire movie worth watching.

Not only was Harrison Ford sick - he had dysentery. Which means he had a massive case of the shits. And didn’t want to go through multiple takes in the scene.
