PS3 Slim Eh? Tempting…

With Sony still handily losing the console race by a wide margin, they finally figured that enough was enough, and so we have the PS3 slim.
It’s sleeker, it’s smaller, and more importantly, it’s cheaper, knocking the price down to $300. Now, that amount of money is a very good deal for a Blu-ray player AND a video game system, but I still believe that if Blu-ray hasn’t really been adopted by the masses now, it never will. It’s like bundling a SNES with a Betamax or something. Alright, maybe not that extreme, but it isn’t as significant as the DVD playing PS2 was.
So is it worth it? This is primarily aimed at consumers like me, who have an Xbox 360 and like it (when it works), but also want to play games like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3. But other than that? I literally can’t see another reason to buy it. I’m not going to start spending $30 a pop on Blu-rays, and the graphics difference is just not significant whatsoever. I’m not trying to be an Xbox fanboy here, I just don’t see the system being worth an additional $300 purchase. If I was someone without any system, or only a Wii, I might start considering a PS3 more. But I guess at that point it really depends on your franchise tastes. Halo and Gears vs. Uncharted and GOW are really the only significant battles left now that Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are cross-platform.
Will you buy one now?

Bought my PS3 in April of last year. Totally worth the $399 price tag.
The selection of games isn’t the biggest, but the good games are GREAT. I’m a quality over quantity type. I own a 360 and a Wii and both just have a much higher bullshit:gold ratio.
The difference in Blu-Ray is worth it if you have a good enough TV/Monitor and if the movie is worthy of the quality. Typical comedy movie? Eh I’d skip on Blu-Ray. Epic action-adventure? Like the Dark Knight? Definitely worth the Blu-Ray.
I already own a PS3 but would definitely buy the slim if I didn’t already own one. The reason is the Blu-Ray player. Since the PS3 has wireless networking built in you always have an up to date Blu-Ray player.
I don’t agree with the statement that Blu-Ray is not being adopted by the masses. While the adoption has been slow, we’ve just started to hit some key points ($100 players) that will allow it to take off.
Pure gaming reason = PS3 Slim not worth it
Since a quality Blu-Ray is included = PS3 Slim worth it
At least that’s my $0.02
@ Sir Edward: Oh man, the scenes in the Dark Knight that were filmed with the IMAX cameras; when viewed on Blu-Ray are simply amazing.
I’m probably gonna pick this up now that there’s a price drop on it. I like the look of the new slim model and there’s a decent crop of games coming out for the PS3 in the coming months. My idea was to grab Valkyria Chronicles and Fat Princess, they’ll tide me over until Uncharted 2 which looked fantastic. I think there are enough quality games (or movies in MGS4’s case) to warrant the purchase. I don’t have any experience with the PS3 system thus far but I think when it comes to cross platforming I’ll get multiplayer games on my 360 and single player games on the PS3. Now to just get a Blu-ray capable monitor/TV…
Ta for the information, very usefull
One console is enough for me. I happen to have an XBox, but had I gone the way of PS3, that would have been enough, too.
