‘The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus’ Trailer is Port-Mortem Goodness

Published by Paul Tassi at 12:00 pm under Movies, Trailers

No, Heath Ledger won’t be only immortalized as the Joker in The Dark Knight, he’s got one more trick up his sleeve in his final role in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, the acid-trip film that makes Pan’s Labyrinth and The Fountain look like a Sunday stroll in the park.

The story follows a doctor who sells his soul for immortality. The only catch? The devil gets to take his children when they turn sixteen. Heath Ledger shows up out of nowhere as some mystical spirit bent on stopping this from happening. Because he died midway through filming, director Terry Gilliam enlisted the help of Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law to help fill the role and put something in the plot about “four spirits” to make it logical. And of course he can get away with it because this movie is ****ing crazy.

I’m excited about this film. There’s not too much that Gilliam has had a hand in that I didn’t like.
Brazil and Fear & Loathing were my favorites with 12 Monkeys coming in a very close third.

Agreed. Gilliam + the supernatural = awesomeness.

I’ve been waiting for this film for a long time; the trailer makes it out to be much, much better than what I was expecting.
Why do they keep pushing back the release date? (Answer: because it’s a Gilliam film, that’s why)
I’m also going to go ahead and say that from the trailer it looks as if the film works better with four actors as the one character (if that means that Heath Ledger died for a good cause then let it be.. or is that going too far?).
