Badass Picture of the Week: The Business Behind Childhood
Here’s a look at Jim Henson and Frank Oz holding up Bert and Ernie. Does anyone know who the guy on the left is? I’m not 100% sure.
Anyway, there’s kind of a funny backdrop to this picture. There’s a story about Jim Henson and Frank Oz shooting the breeze with their Bert and Ernie puppets backstage, and Jim Henson takes Ernie and goes, “Bert — what’s sex?”
I’m not quite sure what’s so funny about it but if you really think about it, imagine you had these two weird looking puppets on your arms for like 7 hours a day.
Wouldn’t you wind up doing some weird and funny stuff with them? Can you imagine how many sexual puns per day these guys must have had? Throw in some alcohol and you could have massive puppet parties.

That would pretty much seal my life as complete.
Frank Oz looks remarkably like Tobias Funke.
The guy on the left is Richard Hunt. He was an amazing puppeteer. Here are a few of the characters he performed, Scooter, Janice, Beaker, Junior Gorg, Two headed monster, and many many more.
