Finally, a Vampire Movie I Can Get Behind

Published by Paul Tassi at 12:00 pm under Movies, Trailers

As everyone knows, vampire movies stopped being good around Blade II. Yes, this includes the skull-splitting phenomenon that is Twilight, but it also covers Underworld, and frankly I hated the Day Watch/Night Watch series.

But this new trailer for Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant (really needs to pick one title or the other) has given me hope the the genre isn’t dead. Why? It’s a vampire comedy! It may sound like a lame idea, but watch the trailer and tell me it doesn’t look good. As tired as I’ve grown of John C. Reilly, I think he’s great here and Salma Hayek as the Bearded Lady and Ken Wantanabe as the circus ringmaster help out as well.

It comes out this October, and looks to be a nice compliment to this years other horror comedy, Zombieland.

Oh right, I forgot about Let the Right One In.

Reilly looks like he’s playing a slightly different character than usual and that should really help. This movie would suck if we saw another Talledega / Step Brothers Reilly performance.

Good catch on Let The Right One In. I just saw this movie for the first time over the weekend and really enjoyed it.

To anyone who hasn’t seen it: 1. See it and 2. Watch the Swedish version with subtitles.

You’re correct, this trailer does inspire long dead hope.

Let the Right One In is a masterpiece. I urge anyone who hasn’t seen it to do so. That said, 30 Days of Night is also pretty good.

Eh, there are several decent vampire movies out there, I think most people are just tired of the whole media obsession with them (thanks Stephenie Meyer). And I definitely agree about 30 Days of Night, it’s the way I always picture vampires behaving. I do miss the days when vampire films were more like “Near Dark” and less like “Twilight”.
