Spielberg Remaking ‘Harvey,’ but Why?
Steven Spielberg has acquired the rights to Harvey, a 1950s property he intends to remake for unknown reasons. You would think the man would have enough on his plate with Indy 5, his Lincoln movie and a million other things than to pluck this project out of obscurity.
In case you haven’t seen it (like me!) Harvey is about a guy whose best friend is an invisible 6-foot tall rabbit. Spoiler alert: He’s crazy.
Or is he?
In any case, I’m not sure what the point is of remaking this movie, though I’ve been saying that a lot these days. Should it be remade just because it’s old and now CGI can actually bring a 6-foot tall rabbit to life? I think it’d be much better if they just used a guy in rabbit suit a-la-Donnie Darko. I still have nightmares about Frank.

I think I’m OK with remakes so long as the original film (or play) is old enough. Remaking movies from the 80s makes no sense to me (except to make money, duh), but I feel like 50+ years is a long enough time to where a remake is OK.
I mean, how many people had even heard of this before today? If you weren’t told it was a remake, you’d never know.
You forgot to mention, that Steven Spielberg is doing a remake of Old Boy …which is totally random to me.
I don’t like the Tron of Trailer. It focuses on the motorcycle game, so I hope they don’t mess up or even omit the “your mainboard is a city, and bites are carried around by people” idea.
My vote for worst remake: Planet of the Apes
(Godzilla was bad too)

Yeah, that Old Boy remake is pretty random.
I was underwhelmed by the Tron clips, too. You’d think that with today’s CGI technology, they’d be able to create something totally mind-blowing. Then again, we may have just scratched the surface, and I’ve only seen the clips on a computer screen, not in a theater.
Planet of the Apes actually isn’t that bad, mostly because of Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter.

Anyway, I’ve seen the original. It’s better for sure. I just don’t think the remake is as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
No, no, I ment these are actors, so they couldn’t change what was bad in the movie, namely the missing of the point of the original one. You said “Planet of the Apes actually isn’t that bad, mostly because of Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter.”, but I wouldn’t have liked the movie, even if god was playing the lead.

Ah, I see. I think they made a big difference, personally, especially Roth. I was excited every time Thade was on screen; Roth’s mannerisms were perfect.
