Let it be known that Extras is one of my favorite comedies ever, and I even like it more than Gervais’ Office, which will shock many. It wasn’t a perfect show, but I laughed more in its two short seasons than most people did during According to Jim‘s entire nine year run.

The show did celebrity guest spots better than any other program before it (or after it). This is likely because a stipulation of self-parody was almost always enforced, and having the actors play more pompous, clueless versions of themselves was almost always pure comic gold.

Here are my ten favorite spots. If I’ve missed a glaringly obvious one shout it out, but I think all the best ones are in there.

10) Ben Stiller

This is from the pilot where I think the show was still trying to figure out what to with their celebrity guests. I think Stiller’s assholery is a bit over the top, but it makes for some good scenes nonetheless.

9) Robert DeNiro

Probably the most understated guest spot on the show, but it’s all about the pen.

Ian McKellen

6) Clive Owen

5) Kate Winslet

This self parody was almost sad, as Winslet bemoans not winning an Oscar, but she’s got one now so it’s OK.

4) David Bowie

3) Orlando Bloom

I came out with a lot more respect for Bloom after this bit. And by “a lot more” I mean “some.”

2) Daniel Radcliffe
