The Trailers to Every Stanley Kubrick Movie From “The Killing” to “Eyes Wide Shut”
In my personal opinion, if Stanley Kubrick isn’t the greatest filmmaker to ever live (and I emphasize filmmaker, as he was heavily involved in the screenplay, score, lighting, and editing of all of his films), he’s certainly in the conversation. Kubrick’s first full-length feature film was Fear and Desire, made in 1953, and his final film was the generally panned (even though I don’t agree) Eyes Wide Shut in 1999, the year of his death. Some of his movies have become truly iconic, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, and others have held up as funny and relevant even after years and years, like Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. It’s fun to take a look back at the trailers for Kubrick’s movies, as his work spans over and mixes several genres. One thing is certain: there will never be a director like Kubrick. OK, I’m done giving him verbal fellatio. Onto the trailers:

While I agree that Kubrick is truly one of the greatest (The Shining and Full Metal Jacket are still on my favorite movies to date list) I can never agree with statements like you made above.
Its like saying there will never be a Joker as good a Ledger or any number of similar statements. I like the Joker analogy especially because Jack Nicholas received a lot of praise for his depiction of the Joker and then…Heath Ledger came along.

No, you’re missing the point. There will never be a director like him, just as there will never be one like Spielberg or Scorsese.
There WILL be directors like Brett Ratner, Guy Ritchie, and so on.
Your example using the Joker twists my words. “Like” is not “as good as.” Ya feel me?

No worries, dude. I was pretty sure I knew what you were getting at. I am the same way, especially when it comes to sports, e.g, “there will never be anyone as good as Jordan.”
Haha I laughed really hard with the Dr. Strangelove trailer. Never seen that one. I had a history teacher in college who was amazing, and we watched this movie and had to write an essay about it. I was more than happy to do it.
Dr. Strangelove forcing his arm down when he is obviously trying to do the Nazi salute made me crack up everytime.
That Eyes Wide Shut teaser is great. Never seen it, or for that matter the film.

Peter Sellers’ performance in Dr. Strangelove is one of the best I’ve ever seen. 3 characters!

It’s a great trailer, and one of the few that advertises the director like he’s as big a star as the actors involved.
Is that Eyes Wide Shut trailer a joke? It almost seems fan made and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a song and a trailer fit together that poorly.

That song is actually in the movie and on the official soundtrack…
