The Best Scene in ‘Watchmen’ You Never Saw
Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation stayed faithful to the book almost to the point of absurdity, recreation the graphic novel practically frame by frame in most instances. But one scene that hit the cutting room floor was the all-important part where Hollis Mason was beaten to death by a gang of hoodlums.
But now with the DVD on the way, we’ve got our first look at that scene, which I believe really should have made the final cut as it’s only three minutes. They could have cut out three minutes of Ozymandias combing his hair or something.
The scene itself is extremely well done, and the blurring of the beating with Mason fighting old supervillains is a great touch that really makes the scene memorable. Or at least it would have had it actually been in the film.

That was very well done. Hard to watch too. As always, off screen implied violence is worse than seeing it.
@SirEdward
Agreed. Not just for this clip, but in general: the thought of violence is usually much more disturbing than specific images. The same can be said for a lot of horror.
Exactly. The original Halloween? Hardly any graphic violence. Scary stuff. It isn’t just the thought of violence, what our imagination can conjure, it’s the tension leading to it.
Here, you know Mason is going to die. I’ve read the comics, but even without prior knowledge, when it flashes to his trophy/statuette, you should know that’s going to end up inside his head. It’s getting there that makes you nervous, makes it hard to watch. The sudden jump the camera does when the trophy comes down, you know it’s bad. Your mind makes it worse.
