In the Mood for Crippling Depression? Try the ‘Big Fan’ Trailer
Sure, Big Fan is getting pretty decent praise from a number of sources, but after watching the trailer, the thing just looks too depressing for words. All respect to Patton Oswald for climbing out of Comedy Central roasts to land himself the lead in an actual film, but I’m not going to see it just to see if he can act. From the trailer it seems he can, and that’s good enough for me.
The story is about a die hard New York Giants fan who gets accosted by his favorite player. He then can sue him or charge him for personal gain, but in the process destroy the team he loves. It’s not exactly Rudy.
Coming to two theaters not near you soon.

Wow — that looks great!
We know from his stand-up that Patton is funny and smart.
We know from Ratatouille that he can voice-act.
We ALL know from Balls of Steel that his normal acting chops are incredible (“Tastes goooood” — that line reading always makes me wonder why he didn’t get an Oscar Nod.)
(Lame) jokes aside, he looks incredible here. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t do a Bill Murray or Steve Martin and switch from goofball to emotionally-rich roles.

Well put. Oswald is a very talented guy; maybe this will be his springboard.
