This was the plot of an episode of one of the countless Twilight Zone / Tales From the Darkside / Outer Limits shows that were big in the 80s and 90s. I forget which one.Come back to this spot after you see the movie, here's my prediction. After much hand-wringing, etc., one of them (let's say Diaz) pushes the button, the stranger shows up, hands them the cash and takes the box back. Then he tells them he's going to give the box to someone else, and when that new person pushes the button, then Diaz will die. Oh, come on! I thought parts of Southland Tales were absolutely brilliant, while other parts were laughably bad. The movie as a whole is a trainwreck. I'll give The Box a shot, simply because Kelly is pretty good when he pulls himself together. Man, Kelly is frustrating.
