The Last Airbender Trailer Arrives with Hoods, Candles, Star Destroyers

(see the trailer after the jump)
My skepticism has known no bounds for M. Night Shyamalan’s Avatar movie since the beginning. It’s partly because it’s M. Night Shayamalan, partly because it would seem to follow in the tradition of Dragonball Evolution and The Legend of Chun Li and partly because the little bald kid creeps me out.
With the first trailer finally released for the film (now apparently just called The Last Airbender as to not confuse it with James Cameron’s Avatar), my doubt isn’t exactly resolved. Tell me this hooded dude spinning a stick around doesn’t remind you at all of the Star Wars kid of YouTube fame. And things only get better when water Star Destroyers start showing up and hurling meteorites at his house.

I don’t see why there is a problem with this trailer. All it does is show off what the style is going to be like. No movie, at least from my memory, has -ever- pulled off the anime to real life look correctly. Seriously… look at Dragonball and Street Fighter. Anyway… I think this actually looks good style wise. I think it will come down to the script and dialogue and whether or not he can resist the urge to throw in a huge plot twist at an innopportune moment.
Agree with Josh. BTW the Last Airbender is an American cartoon stylized and drawn like Japanime. The trailer overall doesnt look half bad.
@ Josh
I agree. Shyamalan is unfortunately at a point in his career where his works are going to be prejudged based on his prior works and not for their merit. I think that sucks, but that’s how people are.
Definitely wouldn’t have reminded me of star wars kid if you hadn’t said something.
I really do hope that the movie is good. Not for my benefit, but for the benefit of the show as the show is really good and I’d hate for people to remember the name for this movie, if it’s bad, and not even watch the show.
Nevertheless, I’ll see the movie, but I won’t compare it to the show and I’ll try to have low expectations.
