An Extensive Gallery of Gorgeous Alien Artwork

Published by Madison under Movies

 alien1.jpg

It seems as though this is some sort of Reboot Week in the world of film, and the latest franchise that has been rumored for the reboot treatment is Alien.  Instead of harping on about how this is a terrible idea and it’s sacrilegious to tarnish the sci-fi classics Alien and Aliens, I decided to instead focus my energy in a more positive manner.  Alien and Aliens are – to me – perfect movies, and although Alien 3 was a poor sequel, I think it was a pretty good movie in and of itself.  Alien: Resurrection?  We don’t need to discuss that one.

Anyhow, in a sort of homage to the great Alien franchise, I put together a gallery of some of the best Alien-related artwork I could find on the Internet.  You can view the gallery after the jump.  Enjoy (especially all you H.R. Giger fans).

The Morning Link: Another Jessica Simpson Reality Show

Published by Nattyb under Morning Link

Simpson

The new issue of Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson — who endured much body bullying in January for performing in a pair of unflattering high-waisted jeans — recently visited some TV networks to pitch a reality series about society’s scrutiny of women’s bodies.

The premise of the program, titled The Price of Beauty: “She and a friend set off on a road trip around the world in search of what people find beautiful and why,” says a source.

Why is this the morning link you might ask?  I really like her in daisy dukes.

The Final Countdown: The Worst Prequel Ideas, Mr. Nobody, and Zombie Mermaids

We’re not against prequels in principal. JJ Abrams’ Star Trek was pretty awesome. In fact, Cracked couldn’t include some submissions to this week’s contest because they actually wanted to see the movie submitters made up …

Freddie Prinze Jr. is NOT the New Jack Bauer

Published by Paul Tassi under News,Television

freddie.jpg

I don’t usually comment on other people’s commentary of news, but really TV Squad, you think Freddie Prinze Jr. is being lined up to replace Jack Bauer?

Freddie Prinze Jr. will be joining the cast of 24 for the eighth season as a recently-returned marine and Jack Bauer-wannabe named Davis Cole. I think this is an example of Fox either wanting to expand or continue the franchise without Kiefer Sutherland.

Think about it. Sutherland is only getting older. He can’t be Jack Bauer forever. Prinze is a younger, recognizable face (much as all of us want to forget the Scooby Doo movie franchise). This could be the set-up for one of three things: the retirement of Jack Bauer from 24, a spin-off series, or an opportunity to have more negotiating power for Kiefer Sutherland’s next contract renewal. It could even be a combination of the three.

So the question to ask is: could the series continue without Jack Bauer, or would that be the beginning of the end? Since the name of the show is 24 and not Jack Bauer, I would think so.

What the hell? A recognizable male face joins the cast and you think he’s going to replace Kiefer Sutherland? And in response to your last question, the show might as well be called Jack Bauer, because there is no show without him, and a statement like yours can really only be made by someone who doesn’t watch the show. You can’t just swap Freddie Prinze Jr. for Kiefer Sutherland and think the show’s fanbase of seven years isn’t going to bat an eyelash. Remember how well it went over when they hinted that Shia LeBeouf might be the new Indiana Jones?

So what if Jack Bauer is now literally a grandpa on the show? I’d watch Jack Bauer kick terrorist ass in a wheelchair if need be, but no way in hell I would tune in to a Freddie Prinze-led 24.

But a spin-off? Eh, I’d be open to a pilot.

The Closest We’ve Got So Far to Actual Avatar Images

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

I’m not sure why people are tagging this “spoilers” all over the internet, but I guess some people want to go see Avatar without seeing any images, trailers or even concept art from the film. Who are these people? I don’t know, but if you’re one of them, **** you, look at the pictures!

These concept art shots are probably the best we’ll get from the film for awhile. There’s a mech-warrior type suit and a future helicopter. Oh no! Now you know there’s technology in the movie!

Wow, this brings back some memories.  Looking through all these videos, Sega has made some truly classic games.  The original Phantasy Star was the best.

6 Things That Absolutely Suck at the Movie Theater

Published by Nattyb under Movies

Theater

If I’m now paying 12 bucks just to go see a movie and well over 20 bucks for the whole experience then I’d like to think I can expect good things at a movie theater.  Sure there’s no way to tell if the movie will be good or not until it’s been viewed, however there are other things clearly in our control.

It’s not exactly difficult to behave yourself at a movie theater is it?  Apparently it is.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  There are a whole host of things that could go wrong while at the theater.

Here are six that really piss me off

Watch The Guild, Because It’s Awesome

Published by Paul Tassi under Uncategorized

felicia-day.jpg

Last night was my birthday, so while I’m…collecting myself (read: laying unconscious in bed for the next eight hours) I’ve put together a simple post for you to keep you occupied for an hour or so. It’s the complete first season of The Guild, a web show about an MMO guild who meets in real life, and if you haven’t seen it yet, this is your chance. Look, I lined up all the episodes in a row for you all nice and pretty, and you don’t even have to be an WoW addict to appreciate it.

I’ll be back posting original stuff tomorrow, but until then enjoy The Guild:

The Five Most One-Dimensional Comedic Actors Working Today

Published by Madison under Lists,Movies,Television

theyearone.jpg

I’ve written before that humor is a totally subjective concept, so please excuse me if I write some negative things about comedic actors you happen to find hilarious.  I originally wanted to write an article on comedic actors who I felt were overrated, but I felt that it was too difficult to define “overrated” in terms of comedy.  Do we measure how funny someone is by box office success?  Surveys?  It’s pretty much a dead end.

I realized – after a discussion with Paul – that several of the comedic actors I considered “overrated” were in fact quite one-dimensional, a trait that is far easier to recognize.  I’m not saying that these guys aren’t funny – Hell, a couple of them really crack me up – but they seem to play the same characters or the same roles in just about everything they’re in.  For whatever reason, people don’t seem to be getting tired of their act, so I guess these actors should keep doing what’s been working.  Keep reading to see who are the five most one-dimensional comedic actors working today.

The Morning Link: Amazing Words Added to the Dictionary

Published by Nattyb under Morning Link

Cyber

The Oxford English Dictionary is constantly updating, adding new words to reflect the vibrant changes in language and culture. Of course, that also means that as said culture spirals toward a frightening and retarded oblivion, the good people at Oxford have to be there to chronicle it.

Here are some recent additions that make us fear for our future.
