Right now I only have a short list of movies I’m looking forward to this year. Terminator Salvation (this week!), G.I. Joe (what a trailer!) and Avatar (it’ll change your life!). But now after watching the Sherlock Holmes trailer, I’m officially adding it to my list.

I’m not sure whether it’s hearing Roberty Downey Jr. adopt a charming British accent, or seeing Rachel McAdams in 19th century lingerie, but the trailer is pretty fantastic on all fronts. It’s nice to see Guy Ritchie, who has been in a pretty hard slump lately, move away from his typical “English gangsters trying to steal something form each other” philosophy of movie making. However, I guess technically we still are talking about English gangsters, except it’s 150 years ago. Fortunately they still have Snatch-esque slow motion bareknuckle boxing matches back then.

Also the film could set a record for being the first official time that Jude Law appears likable on film, but the jury’s still out on that one. Look for Sherlock Holmes at Christmas, but we’ll be talking about it a lot more before then.
