Princess and the Frog Trailer: What Stereotypes?

Published by Paul Tassi at 1:00 pm under Movies, Trailers

The first trailer for Disney’s new old-fashioned hand animated film is here. I’m surprised we’re not watching it on film reel...with organ musicin the ’30s. Alright, I’ll stop.

The film reimagines the story of the Princess and the Frog, where an overly trusting princess is seduced by a frog into kissing him. But this time, instead of turning into a prince, she turns into a frog, and the promise of Disney first black princess goes out the window for presumably nine-tenths of the movie.

She’s aided by here totally-not-stereotypical old black aunt and/or grandma and chased by the totally-not-stereotypical voodoo Bayou witch doctor. And there are some other animals and things too. I don’t know, I just don’t know how hard I can really root for a frog here. The best part of the trailer was watching the montage of all the old Disney films.

This just doesn’t look like a new classic to me. Thoughts?

That was awful. You were right, though, the montage at the beginning was the best. Somewhat reminiscent of Pixar, though.
