Lost Questions: Follow the Leader

Last night’s Lost was probably one of the most epic of the season, with almost every character and plotline covered (except Lapedus and the beach folk). We flashed from the ‘70s to the present and back again and some crazy ass sh*t went down that we need to discuss pronto.

1) I’ll start with what I think is the most fundamental question of the season: can the survivors really change anything in the past, or does “whatever happened, happened” still hold true? Does anyone really believe that Jack is going to detonate this bomb and everything’s going to be fixed and Boone and Ana Lucia and Mr. Eko and Artz are going to spring back to life? I can’t see any other way out of this besides Jack’s meddling actually helps cause the incident in the first place, the incident transports them to the future in front of everyone’s eyes (hence why Richard “saw them all die”) and we’re all reunited in the present tense heading into the final season. Can it really happen any other way than that?

2) How did they get the bomb in the tunnels, and how will they get it out? I predict a little help from a big brawny smoke monster.

3) Did you realize that Radzinski was Desmond’s hatchmate before he went crazy and blew his head off? I just now figured that out. That’s too bad because I really wanted to watch him die. Update: I am incorrect, he was Desmond’s hatchmate’s old hatchmate. I thought I would have recognized him.

4) Why did Horace send Kate to the sub? That didn’t really make sense. I’m guessing it was just a bit of writing maneuvering so we could see Juliette’s evil eye for the fifth time this season.

5) Will we ever see any of the famous polar bear experiments at the Hydra before we leave the ’70s? What the hell is going on over there?

6) This question has been put off in the distance, but it occurs to me whenever I see Horace. What happens to his son, Ethan, that converts him into an Other? I don’t think we’ll be around in the ’70s long enough to find out, unless there’s some serious baby-napping going on in the next episode.

7) How great was this:

“That man said you were from the future, is it true?”
“Dude, that’s ridiculous.”
“What year were you born?”
“Uh, 1931”
“You’re 46? So you fought in the Korean War?”
“There’s…no such thing.”
“Who’s the president of the United States?”
“Alright dude we’re from the future.”

Probably one of the funniest exchanges I’ve ever heard on the show. Yeah that wasn’t really a question, but whatever. The answer is “great.”

8 ) What happens to the submarine to make Sawyer, Juliette and Kate come back. If it brings all those people back (little Miles, little Charlotte), I believe we’re deviating from the set script of the past.

9) How are they planning on detonating the bomb anyways? More dynamite from the Black Rock? Shoot at it until it blows up? Also, weren’t they standing pretty close to it? I don’t think the radioactive leak has gotten better over the last thirty years.

10) Back to the future (present) with Locke, Richard and Ben, it was a total mind**** to see Locke as the one helping himself, but more importantly was the discussion of Jacob. Ben admitted two things to Locke 1) The island has never talked to him and 2) He’s never seen Jacob. So does this mean when he was leading the Others, he was just making stuff up as he went?

11)  Also, this could explain the Cabin Fever episode more. Ben was freaked out when Locke said that Jacob spoke to him saying “Help me.” I always thought that Ben was upset that Jacob actually talked to Locke when he wasn’t “worthy,” but now I think it might be because Ben had never heard Jacob talk at all. Maybe they said that explicitly back then? I don’t remember.

12) Locke is going to “kill” Jacob? Seriously? How exactly do you kill a person who is either A) not real B) a ghost C) seemingly immortal since he’s clearly been there forever? And why would Locke want to kill him anyways? Isn’t Jacob essentially the island itself? You would think him and John would go out for a beer together or something.

13) Lastly, we’ve still got all that “shadow of the statue” business to clear up. What’s in that crate? A body? A baby smoke monster?

Well, those are all the questions I can cram in this week. Tune in next time for a very special season finale edition of Lost Questions which will undoubtedly run about three times this long.

I was thinking about number 1 alot during the show. If they could change the past, would that mean Desmond would be the only one to remember everything?
Seeing as Faraday told him that he was different and time doesnt effect him…or something.
Could we see a season finale with everyone back on the plane and desmond back to being stuck in a hatch with his previous memories?
Hell no because that would be mental. So yeah, jack will no doubt cause the incident.

Just for the record Jack fixes time he goes back to his life of being a doctor. Kate goes to jail.
    Dick move Jack. Dick move.

I really didn’t like the whole “Future-Locke tells Richard to tell past-Locke he has to die, but future-Locke only knows he had to die, because he was told by Richard”-paradox. Other than that, epic episode.

Radinzski wasn’t Desmond’s hatchmate, he was Kelvin’s. Kelvin showed Desmond what was left of Radinski (blood stain on the cieling) when Desmond showed up.

1.) you’re wrong about Radzinski. he was never in the hatch with Desmond. he was with Kelvin Inman and then killed himselft. Kelvin was in the hatch with Desmond…. and it is REALLY sad it took you this long to figure that out.

2.) a good theory i’ve heard is that Locke is going to finally “help” Jacob and set him free. i don’t think he is a ghost, but i think he is someone who is stuck on the island and “fades in and out” because of the time-skipping. he may even be held captive by the others or Ben or Alpert (if you remember the protective “ring” around Jacob’s cabin)

3.) Ben very well could be lying about never seeing Jacob. it seems that he is trying to butter Locke up and tell him what he wants to hear in order to get a chance to get rid of Locke.

4.) Jughead has a trigger, that’s how they will detonate it.

5.) Kate is a bitch. she doesn’t seem to keep in mind that a TON of innocent people died and it could be resurrected and she wouldn’t have been such a pain in everyone’s ass. Jack’s not being selfish, he’s just trying to “fix” things which is true to his character since the pilot episode.

I have to point out that I agree with Marcus, because if Locke told Richard to tell Locke that he had to bring everyone back to the island to save them then who the hell told him that in the first place.

    1. I think What ever happened happened is in effect, Jack is going to help cause the incident and that will result in them being brought back to the present and also set everything else in motion.

    2. I’m not sure about that, the smoke monster is as good a way as any I suppose.

    4. I’m not sure about that, though he doesn’t seem to have a stomach for killing so if she was brought to him when Radzinski wasn’t around he may have figured it was best to just get her out of there.

    5. I doubt we’ll get to see any of the Hydra before they leave.

    7. I agree Hurley is always awesome and that exchange was one of the best ever.

“and it is REALLY sad it took you this long to figure that out.”

What is truly sad is the amount of attention you give a TV show. There’s a life out there, get it.

“What is truly sad is the amount of attention you give a TV show. There’s a life out there, get it.”

you’re right. someone who is writing a REVIEW of a show every week shouldn’t know what they’re saying or pay attention to insignificant things like characters and plot.

i must not have a life to spend an hour a week watching a tv show. you’re right. being able to pay attention and retain information is a horrible thing! i apologize.
