The Final Countdown: Japanese Robots Who Kill, Computer Hatred, and My Favorite Chinese Restaurant

If there are two thing the Japanese are amazing at it’s their obsession with Game Show and Robots.  It seems as though they put tons of effort into both.  And if you think the scenario from Terminator isn’t a distinct possibility then think again.  Robots are coming along quite quickly and we’re all doomed.

Star Trek Fans Think New Star Trek Movie is Awesome

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies,News

“Ahhh young Kirk! Young Spock! Have my babies!”

A group of Trekkers (Trekkees? whichever one is more offensive) were treated to a collective nerdgasm this weekend as they showed up to a theater where Leonard Nimoy suddenly appeared clutching the newest Star Trek movie.

Nimoy noted to the crowd that it just didn’t seem fair that people in Australia were the fist to see the film and asked them “wouldn’t you rather see the new movie?” And apparently the crowd went wild. After that they showed the entire new Star Trek movie. Nimoy stayed for the entire event as did Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof.

According to a friend who called in to TrekMovie after the event, the audience reaction was very positive. There were “genuine laughs” at the jokes and “quiet moments” with the serious character stuff. And apparently the crowd applauded at the introduction to each character. The film ended with a standing ovation.

So does that mean the movie is actually good? I mean I think Leonard Nimoy could have walked out there and handed them a popcorn bucket full of his own poo and that would have also gotten a standing ovation.

But hey, it’s not a bad sign right? And lord knows I’ll need a pick-me-up after Wolverine dashes all my hopes earlier in the month.

No, I Will Absolutely Not See Frankenhood

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies

frankenhood.jpg

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a one star YouTube video before. Oh yes, that’s right, the one of those kids beating up that cat that got pulled immediately.

I wouldn’t say that the trailer for Frankenhood is comparable to that level of horror, but it’s pretty damn close. This is a project so awful that even the Wayans brothers and Tyler Perry have stayed away, and comedic black hole Eddie Murphy (at least recently) even sent in his brother Charlie to make a cameo instead of showing up himself.

It’s like My Giant meets Encino Man, which is probably one of the most horrendous movie cocktails I can think of besides The Happening and Rollerball. Sorry Madison, not even stiumlants will help for this one.

Yes, I Will Absolutely See Frankenhood

Published by Madison under Movies

Frankenhood comes out on May 5th, and if you watch the preview, it should come as no surprise that it’s being released straight to DVD.  I don’t care – it’s got Charlie Murphy and looks like the perfect movie to sit back and enjoy with the aid of some, uh, external stimulants.  Just think of it as another sequel to Friday, but with an undead giant dude and a basketball tournament.  Count me in.

New Box Poster Tests Your Perversion

Published by Madison under Movies

It’s just really tough for me to see the words “Cameron Diaz” followed immediately below by “The Box” and not associate the two, creating a euphemism for Cameron’s private area.

I’m excited to see The Box (I’m done with euphemisms starting now), but not because of Cameron Diaz.  Richard Kelly is directing this movie, and I loved Donnie Darko.  Even though Southland Tales was a disaster, it was at least ambitious and original, and so hopefully Kelly can pull it together for this one.

Schindler

There have been lots of articles on motivational speeches in movies.  Many come from sports movies, or even movies that contain war.  But I haven’t seen too many articles dedicated to war movies.  And quite honestly, there’s some amazing speeches and monologues in war related movies that are worth mentioning.

From Braveheart’s “Freedom” speech to the opening marine scene in Full Metal Jacket, here are 10 of the most amazing monologues in war movies.

11 Memorable Taxi Drivers in Movies

Published by Madison under Lists,Movies

 korben.jpg

Living in Manhattan, I take taxi cabs pretty often.  The subways are almost always crowded with disgusting, smelly people with no concept of personal space, and the bus always takes forever to get from point A to point B.  The role of the taxi driver is often stereotyped, but in New York, you’re bound to run into many different and interesting characters sitting behind the wheel of a taxi.  The same can be said for taxi drivers in the movies, too.  The job isn’t easy, and driving in New York can be a nightmare if you don’t have quick reflexes and a bit of aggression.  In honor of the skilled men (and women?  I’ve met maybe two female cabbies) that get us to our destinations quickly and for a fair price, I’ve compiled a list of 11 memorable taxi drivers from movies.

The Morning Link: The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Cosplay

Published by Nattyb under Morning Link

Pikachu

As you know we’re big fans of Cosplay here.  Whether it’s a picture of the real thing, a gorgeous woman, or some guy who has clearly gotten it wrong, it’s an entertaining culture that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.

But this is one of the first times in an article where I’ve seen all three displayed in one picture.  Gameplayer has put together a cool compilation of 40 Smokin’ hot (or scary) Cosplay Gamers.
