The Dharma Initiative, also written DHARMA (Department of Heuristics and Research on Material Applicatioons, is a fictional research project featured in the television series Lost. It was introduced in the second season episode “Orientation”. In 2008, the Dharmainitiative website was launched.

For more on this, and believe me there’s more, you can view the whole story.   In any event, I find it pretty amazing that this entire subculture has been created out of thin air.  I’m truly impressed at the imagination of the writers of this show.

I’m sure Lost will be talked about for years to come, and there will be some weird Dharma cults or something.  But before that, here’s some people having fun with the Dharma initiative in the form of retro advertising
