First Look at Scorcese’s Shutter Island?

Published by under Images,Movies

 shutter-island.jpg

I have to say, I’m now pretty damn excited about Martin Scorcese’s Leo-lead adventure into psychological horror, Shutter Island. I hadn’t really heard much about it, but this odd little advert that popped up in some random newspaper gives me a sense of the mood, and it looks like it could be a bit like Session 9, another amazing film set within an asylum. But this is Scorcese and Leo doing it!

Although in the interest of being fair and balanced, if Scorcese and DiCaprio were nowhere near this, I’d be saying, “Oh awesome, another sh*tty horror movie about a creepy girl with stringy wet hair.”

What’s the last horror flick Scorcese did? Cape Fear? Time to put that on the old download queue.

The Big Pimpin’ Sherlock Holmes Poster

Published by under Movies

sherlock.jpg

ComingSoon just posted a whole gallery of new movie posters on display at ShoWest, but the Sherlock Holmes print is the only one that really caught my eye.

I mean, I understand it’s a Guy Ritchie joint and everything, but am I really going to be able to take this movie seriously when apparently it’s going to have lines of dialogue like “Is Sherlock Homes gonna have to choke a bitch?”

Check out the rest of the posters here. Man that New Moon one is riveting, huh?

Mario Warps to the Real World

Published by under Video Games

Chunnel TV has this video – called “Warp Whistle” – that features Mario warping from Super Mario Bros. 3 into the real world.  Think Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but without the voluptuous Jessica Rabbit.  Instead, we get a Seth Rogan-esque guy holding a block for Mario to smash.  I predict that it’s only a matter of time before we start hearing rumors of a live action Mario movie.  That’d be one remake I don’t think anyone would be opposed to.  How awful is the original?  I still don’t understand it, and I’ve even watched it stone sober.  A huge mistake.

Pictures That Don’t Exactly Portray the Proper Image of Spiderman

Published by under Oddly Enough

Spiderman

Sometimes you don’t exactly get your friendly “neighborhood Spiderman.”  In fact many times you wind up seeing images of the comic book hero in instances one would hardly expect a superhero to be in.

For a guy that can virtually fly, have superhuman strength, and save entire cities, I doubt the true creators of the comic book envisioned seeing Spiderman in some of the ways we’ve managed to find him.

Real or fake (well they’re all fake) these are some pretty funny and disturbing views of Spiderman.

The Psychology of the Non-Threatening Female Lead

Published by under Television

northern-lights.jpg

Last night I watched Northern Lights on Lifetime. It’s an adaptation of a Nora Robert’s novel and it very well could be the worst thing I’ve seen on TV in years. How did I come to watch it? That’s not important, but I’ll say that it has something to do with losing a bet.

But forcing myself all the way though it made me reflect on something I really hadn’t thought about in a while. About how television is marketed towards women, and to me it seems to be all about the non-threatening female lead.

In Northern Lights, LeAnn Rhymes plays an Alaskan pilot who falls in love with the new town police chief, Eddie Cibrian. He’s trying to solve the murder of her father and blah blah blah the banker did it.

But it got me thinking about how this TV movie, and a lot of other television is sold to women. My roommates (who are female) were swooning over Eddie Cibrian the entire movie (and I will admit, he is a dreamboat), but I constantly found myself constantly wishing that LeAnn Rhymes would be hotter so I would at least have some remote reason to watch this thing.

Then it hit me, LeAnn is a prime example of the non-threatening female lead seen everywhere on TV these days. She’s cute, but not too cute, and certainly not hot. This allows the female audience to sympathize with her, but not be intimidated by her in the least.

An Awesome Gallery of Final Fantasy Cosplay

Published by under Video Games

ff1.jpg

It’s time for another cosplay gallery.  What better way to start off a Monday morning than to take a look at young adults dressed up as their favorite video game characters?  Surely, you’ll be feeling better about yourself in no time.  Viewing a cosplay gallery is like receiving an injection of self-esteem, similar to watching an episode of Jerry Springer.  Admittedly, though, some cosplay costumes are pretty impressive, and some of the female cosplayers are quite attractive.  There’s no shortage of Final Fantasy cosplayers, so after the jump, take a look at an awesome gallery of Final Fantasy cosplay:

The Morning Link: Would you Watch “Kidnapping the Stars?”

Published by under Morning Link

Shawn

People throw the term “jailbait” around pretty loosely, but it’s important to remember that girls who are younger than 18 aren’t really jailbait unless you stalk them and keep loaded guns, duct tape, zip ties, and love letters in your car

In case you guys missed this, some psycho who is obsessed with gymnast Shawn Johnson traveled a long way to get to the set of “Dancing with the Stars” where he could hopefully have his way with the nimble little  17-Year-Old.

Obsess much?

Ice Age 3 Trailer is Chronologically Confused

Published by under Movies

ice-age-3.jpg

(click here to watch after the jump)

The subtitle of the film is “Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” but from my extensive study of dinosaurs when I was six, even I know that mammals came well, after the giant bird-lizards.

But hey, it’s Ice Age, so how much can I really complain. I’m more concerned about the fact that there’s a joke about penis-pulling in a PG-rated movie. At least Shrek used double entendre to get its dirty jokes out there.

Also, I’ve been seeing ads for this for over a year and I swear it already came out three months ago instead of in July.

A Cockatiel Singing Saria’s Song

Published by under Oddly Enough,Video Games

Kame-chan the cockaitel takes a break from being an annoying, worthless animal to sing Saria’s Song from the Zelda franchise.  Nothing personal against Kame-chan (because as far as birds go, he’s aight), but why would someone have a pet bird?  They’re loud, they defecate constantly, you can’t cuddle with them, and they have that dangerous beak – the type of lipless, sharp mouth that haunts my dreams.  I don’t get it.  It’s still way better than owning a cat, though.  What do people say when you inform them that cats suck?  “Not my cat; he’s just like a dog.”  The highest compliment you can give a cat is pointing out its similarities to a dog.  What does any of this have to do with Zelda or singing birds?  Hell if I know.  It’s Sunday afternoon and all the E from last night still hasn’t worn off yet.  My monitor tastes amazing.

New Star Trek Poster: At Least It’s Not a Floating Head

Published by under Movies

 star-trek.jpg

After a barrage of about 50 different star trek posters, all of someone or another’s head, it’s nice to see something different, even if it is a blurry shot of the Enterprise rolling past at most likely about 45 million miles an hour.

If I was indeed a Trekkie (Trekker?), I would probably pick this one up for my room as it’s not a creepy three foot Zachary Quinto creepily staring trying to mind melt with me.
