Published by Nattyb under Final Countdown

Wayne

Welcome to yet another edition of the Final Countdown.  I hope your Monday treated you well.  I for one am still trying to get back to reality.  Weekends really suck in the sense that it takes me until at least Wednesday to feel human again.  And by that point I’m already psyched for the weekend and feeling less human again.

Test Audiences Claim Parks and Recreation is an Office Clone

Published by Paul Tassi under News, Television

parks.jpg

There’s a whole list of problems that the testing audiences for NBC’s new Office-follower, Parks and Recreation, had with the show, but most of them just make me think that test audiences are stupid. Granted I have to wait until the show actually comes out to make that judgment, but I have a hunch I’m right. From the report:

PARKS AND RECREATION’s overwhelming resemblance to THE OFFICE caused many viewers to simply see it as a “carbon copy” of a successful show. The pilot was seen as “predictable” and lacking in character development, even for a pilot. PARKS AND RECREATIONS needs to differentiate itself from THE OFFICE; otherwise it runs the risk of being seen as “derivative,” “forced,” and “unoriginal.

I’m sorry, but was anyone else expecting anything besides a clone of The Office, set somewhere else and probably less funny? If this show is half as good as The Office I’ll consider it a raving success, but I’m not holding my breath on that count.

Audiences also said the show was too slow moving and there weren’t any hot guys. Ah yes, I can see myself relating to this test audience all the more.

Will these “problems” be fixed by the show’s launch in April? Probably, but as long as Rashida Jones is there, I will be also.

Alyssa Milano Replacing Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters Game

Published by Paul Tassi under News, Video Games

alyssa.jpg

As the story goes, Sigourney Weaver would not lend her voice to the upcoming Ghostbusters game because she thought it was be a crappy licensed movie video game (a relatively understandable hypothesis), but once she figured out the project was actually well thought out and featured all the film’s other stars, she changed her tune.

But it was too late, the deals had been done, and now it’s official that Alyssa Milano is stepping into the vocal chords for Weaver’s old role. Now, it’s funny, I know the name Alyssa Milano quite clearly, but I’ll be damned if I can tell you one thing that she’s actually in. She’s kind of like Eliza Dushku for me, but at least I know Dushku is in Dollhouse now.

Oh she was in Charmed? Well, I usually turned off the WB straight after Smallville, so I never really caught that one. I’m not sure why they felt it necessary to cast Milano in this role, it’s not like her character is going to be taking her virtual top off or anything. Maybe she sounds exactly like Weaver? Who cares, I’m not buying this game to hear the vocal stylings of Dana Berrett.

Coen Brothers’ Next Will Be True Grit

Published by Madison under Movies, News

coenbros460.jpg

According to Variety, the Coen Brothers will be adapting another book for their next film:

As their next film, Joel and Ethan Coen will put their spin on “True Grit,” the iconic Western that won John Wayne an Oscar.

Not a traditional remake, the Paramount film will be more faithful to the Charles Portis book than the 1969 pic, also distributed by Par.

Portis’ novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father’s killer in hostile Indian territory.

But while the original film was a showcase for Wayne, the Coens’ version will tell the tale from the girl’s p.o.v.

This sounds like it will be another dark, serious project from the Coen Brothers, which is fine by me.  No Country For Old Men was awesome, and if the Coens can make a great movie from a McCarthy novel, I’m sure they can adapt this novel, too.  The aging U.S. Marshal role has Tommy Lee Jones written all over it.  As for the 14-year-old girl?  I don’t even know any actresses in that age group.  I’m totally stumped.

10 Solid Banned Video Game Commercials

Published by Nattyb under Oddly Enough

XBox

After the news of another Killzone 2 Ad being pulled I realized how far video games have come over the years.  In the early days, video game commercials were kind of “dorky.”  Lots of fun imaginary stuff but never controversial.  Nowadays video game commercials are filled with amazing graphics, sex, and violence.

Basically, video games have moved up to the level of regular commercial products and movies.  With that said I thought I’d take a look around to see if there were any other banned video game commercials out there.

Here are 10 worth a look

Eight Disney Remixes To Blow Your Mind

Published by Paul Tassi under Lists, Movies

Well damn it all, I’m feeling very nostalgic at the moment, because I put on The Lion King while folding my laundry, and ended up watching the whole thing. It inspired this post which features eight Disney-themed remixes. Most of them features bits and pieces from the original material, while some are nearly ALL from the source itself.

Some pretty cool video and audio editing here, along with a healthy dose of your childhood. Check them out:

11 Awesome Courtroom Scenes in Movies

Published by Madison under Lists, Movies

 afewgoodmenjack1.JPG

As a practicing lawyer, I can tell you that going to court usually isn’t very exciting.  There’s very little arguing, everyone seems to get along just fine, the judge is rarely intimidating, and the courtroom itself is hardly a spectacle to behold.  The events that take place in courtrooms as shown in movies are largely inaccurate, exaggerated, and sensationalized - but that’s a good thing, because if accurate, those scenes would be terribly boring.  In the movies, courtroom scenes are usually heated, intense, and sometimes hysterical.  I’d like my second job a lot more if going to court meant a morning of screaming and wooing a jury.  Instead, it’s waiting around for your adversary to arrive before you swap discovery demands and discuss last night’s basketball game.  Sigh.  Here are 11 awesome courtroom scenes from movies that present aspiring lawyers the illusion that they’re off to embark on a colorful, exciting career in the law.

The Morning Link: If Video Game Characters Could Switch Games

Published by Nattyb under Video Games

duffo

Ever wonder what it’d be like if you could shoot the living hell out of that annoying dog in Duck Hunt, only you’re doing it with a gun from Doom?  Or what if you could use Mike Tyson in Mortal Kombat?

Sadly these scenarios will never officially come to life but that doesn’t mean they can’t be seen.  Cracked has compiled a great collection of 20 pictures of video game characters switching games.
