Punch Out

Once you can get past that first onslaught of punches, Tyson is a manageable boss.  Nothing is more exhilarating than defeating the final boss of a video game.  Well nothing of course if you’re still a virgin.  But seriously, it’s a wonderful feeling to finally get past that one pain in the ass dude.  Then it’s on to the next game.

The Saga of Rihanna and Chris Brown as Told by Sock Puppets

Published by Paul Tassi under Oddly Enough

If you’ve had trouble keeping track of the entire ridiculousness that has been the Chris Brown/Rihanna scandal, someone has put together a rather informative video recapping the drama of the last few weeks.

Oh, and it’s told by sock puppets. Yeah.

The video is part one in a who-knows-how-many-part celebrity sock puppet series. I already prefer it to seeing the celebrities in real life.

Time Sees James Cameron’s Avatar, and It is Awesome

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies, News

avatar.jpg

Some smart bastard over at Time volunteered to write a piece about the advent of 3-D movies, and this landed him an invite to see a few scenes from James Cameron’s upcoming super project, the $300M Avatar. And what’d he think?

Avatar is filmed in the old “Spruce Goose” hangar, the 16,000-sq.-ft. space where Howard Hughes built his wooden airplane. The film is set in the future, and most of the action takes place on a mythical planet, Pandora. The actors work in an empty studio; Pandora’s lush jungle-aquatic environment is computer-generated in New Zealand by Jackson’s special-effects company, Weta Digital, and added later.I couldn’t tell what was real and what was animated–even knowing that the 9-ft.-tall blue, dappled dude couldn’t possibly be real. The scenes were so startling and absorbing that the following morning, I had the peculiar sensation of wanting to return there, as if Pandora were real.Cameron wasn’t surprised. One theory, he says, is that 3-D viewing “is so close to a real experience that it actually triggers memory creation in a way that 2-D viewing doesn’t.” His own theory is that stereoscopic viewing uses more neurons. That’s possible. After watching all that 3-D, I was a bit wiped out. I was also totally entertained.

Wow, James Cameron’s new movie is so insane, it’s literally going to rewire the way your brain works. Now that Watchmen has come and gone, Avatar is the next movie I’m piss-in-my-pants excited about. Too bad I have to wait until December. Hopefully, Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator, G.I. Joe and Transformers can all combine forces and tide me over until then.

This whole Time article is great, I highly suggest you read the whole thing here.

Sorority Row Trailer: All You Could Want and More

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies, Trailers

(click here to watch after the jump)

Well, unless what you want is a quality, well-thought out horror movie, then no, you won’t get that. But what you WILL get is a bunch of half naked sorority chicks running around screaming as someone tries to kill them with a 4-way tire iron.

This is an absurd movie on a number of levels, one of them being that it stars Hills princess Audrina Patridge as “girl who accidentally dies and (supposedly) comes back to kill everyone” and Rumer Willis as “smart emo girl whose gynormous chin is hidden by clever camera angles.”

Also, the weapon of choice here is a tire iron with blades on it? You’ve got to be kidding me. I know we’re running out of cool iconic movie weapons, but I’d rather have you start over with cleaver or a scythe or something than this nonsense. Continue Reading »

The City of Sinners and Saints Trailer Foreshadows The Singularity

Published by Madison under Trailers

Here’s the trailer for the new online social network, The City of Sinners and Saints.  The concept driving the network is that it’s three-dimensional and interactive, as opposed to the plethora of two-dimensional social networking sites found littered around the Internet.  I, for one, don’t have myspace, Facebook, Twitter, or anything else, so there’s no chance I become part of the Sinners and Saints.  I suppose it could be fun to screw around and torment people, but I’d rather spend my time interacting with people over the phone or in person as opposed to a computer.  It’s only a matter of time before the singularity becomes a reality and we’re all living in a virtual world that makes the humans in WALL-E look like triathletes.

10 Interesting Non Mortal Kombat Fatality Pictures

Published by Nattyb under Oddly Enough, Video Games

Fatality

By far one of the best inventions in any video game was the fatality move in Mortal Kombat.   If I close my eyes I can’t picture the scream of “get over here!” and an opponent suffering a bloody and violent death.  Weather it was being tossed into the pit or having the soul sucked from the body, Mortal Kombat sure intrigued every single user of their games.  And they still do so today.

But what if we took fatalities and put them into different games?  Image that Super Mario Brothers had fatality moves.  Or what about Pac Man?  Personally I think it’d be hilarious.

While these games will more than likely never feature the fatality, that doesn’t mean people out there haven’t made funny pictures that portray would-be fatalities from non Mortal Kombat games.

Here are 10 worth posting

10 Music Videos Directed by David Fincher

Published by Madison under Movies, Uncategorized

 fincher.jpg

Before he was nominated for Best Director and directing films such as Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Unreality favorite David Fincher was directing music videos.  Fincher’s talent and style were recognizable even back then; the use of  flashlights in Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun” - a Fincher trademark - foreshadowed his incredible use of lighting in his feature films.  Fincher’s music videos all have a tone and atmosphere of their own but still maintain a certain feel that lets you know it was Fincher’s work.  Fincher must have enjoyed directing music videos, evidenced not only by the dozens of videos on his resume, but also by the fact that in 2005, he took some time to direct Nine Inch Nails’ “Only.”  Speaking of Nine Inch Nails, “Closer” is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen, and it was directed by Mark Romanek, who has just recently made the jump to feature film.  It will be interesting to see if he can become as esteemed as Fincher while developing a style all his own.  In the meantime, enjoy 10 music videos directed by one of the best directors working today, David Fincher.

Morning Link: Resident Evil’s Best Villains

Published by Nattyb under Morning Link

Shark

For any of you that follow or are interested in the Resident Evil franchise you’ll know that there are an awful lot of sordid and disturbing creatures running a muck.    And given this has been going on since the 90s there’s a ton to choose from.

IGN has done a solid job in identifying some of the best villains over the past 13 years of RE.  Hope you enjoy the article.  It’s solid.
