New Line Jury-Rigging a MacGyver Movie

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that New Line is set to make a MacGyver movie in a move that frankly makes me say “What took them so long?” That’s not to say that this is the best idea in the world, but I mean they re-made everything from Starsky and Hutch to Miami Vice to a serialized Knight Rider TV show, yet MacGyver has been left by the wayside.

And out of all those ’80s franchises, it probably has the best chance of suceeding both commercially and critically (well, that second one might be a stretch). I mean, I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the show on the internet, but even I’m a little bit jazzed to see a reworking of the improv hero on the big screen. With the right cast and writing, it might not be a half bad action flick. Just keep Michael Bay the hell away from it.

Better than another toy-based movie. That’s all I’ve gotta say.
