Keira Knightley to Star in Never Let Me Go; Prospect of Knightly Clones Arouses Me
Variety reports that Keira Knightley will star in the upcoming sci-fi film Never Let Me Go:
Mark Romanek (“One Hour Photo”) will direct the cloning-themed pic, which will also star Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan.
Story revolves around a trio who grew up in a boarding school with no contact or knowledge of the outside world until they discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation.
OK, I know you’re thinking, “Hey, that sounds a lot like The Island!” Maybe, but to be fair, The Island was a ripoff, too, so all’s fair. I’m guessing this one will have less explosions and more exploration into the psychology of being a clone, anyhow. I do like the idea of several Keira Knightleys running around on screen, and hopefully the clones are nude when they are being “grown.” I’d love to get a good look at Keira’s skinny frame; she’s like a greyhound with those ribs sticking out.
And let’s not overlook Mark Romanek – he was at one point set to direct The Wolfman, so it looks like this is his next big project. I’m always optimistic about Romanek’s work – he gets a lifetime pass just for the NIN video “Closer.”

And lets not forget Alex Garland, acclaimed novelist and screenwriter, who’s writing the script and producing. Or the unique and fabulous novel by Kazuo Isiguro the script is based on. This is easily the novel I most want to see made into a (good) film.
