Eddie Murphy to Play Richard Pryor? Questionable

This is kind of…weird. Eddie Murphy is reported to be playing the late Richard Pryor in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? which is being shot by Murphy’s Dreamgirls pal, Bill Condon.

Isn’t this, just, you know, strange? Like the black comedy icon of the 80s playing the black comedy icon of the 70s? It’s not going to be like seeing Pryor up there, but not really Murphy either. It’s going to be some bizarre amalgam that’s probably just going to weird me out.

In other comedy biopic news, Chris Rock has been cast to play Eddie Murphy in an upcoming 2012 release while Dave Chappelle will play Chris Rock in a film stated for 2016.

I think I like it, dude. Haven’t you seen Murphy’s Pryor impression in Raw? It’s incredible. We may finally, finally see Eddie Murphy return to funny.

I support it. I haven’t watched a new Eddie Murphy movie in years (since the Nutty Professor), but the man was very funny in his prime. I think he is capable of the sort of inspired performance akin to Jim Carrey’s portrayal of Andy Koffman in “Man on the Moon”. I would go see this movie.

Too bad Murphy backed out with Paramount making the movie. But Marlon Wayans stepped up.
