10 Exceptionally Inappropriate Pokemon Videos

I grew up watching Pokemon, but little did I know all the dirtiness that had been cut out or subliminal slipped through into each of the episodes. It took some work, but here are ten pretty WTF Pokemon videos that will have you questioning it’s classification as a kids show. Enjoy:

1) Wow, Looking Good There James

What the…? I had seen stills of this (above), but I always figured it was some sort of bizarre fetish fan art. But apparently it’s an actual scene that was banned from an episode for the most blatantly obvious of reasons.

2) Pikachu Grope

Because even little electric rats need a little love.

3) Meowth’s WTF Boss Fantasy

Now this is all in Japanese, but let me see if I understand. Meowth is getting really excited about an oiled up muscular male who runs across the desert only to end up getting humped by a thousand insect Pokemon? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

4) Ash Sneaks a Peek

Come on, you walk around with a girl all day every day and she’s wearing those shorts, you’re bound to get caught looking at least once.

5) Get Off My Lawn!

You can’t even show a gun pointed at the screen in a movie without it being rated R (true story), so I’m pretty sure you can’t do it in a kids’ show. Who knew they even had guns in Pokeworld? I thought all disputes were resolved through monster fights.

6) The Seizure Scene (WARNING, WARNING AND MORE WARNING, DON’T WATCH IF SEIZURE PRONE)

This is the scene that put 700 Japanese kids in the hospital when it first aired. It doesn’t look anything too out of the ordinary to me, but fortunately my brain appears to not be negatively affected by rapidly alternating colors.

7) Jynx Being Racist

This entire episode was banned just because Jynx looks like she’s in blackface. I’m sure the Japanese didn’t even know what blackface was, but whatever, Jynx sucks ass.

8 ) Please Stop Sabrina

Don’t know the context or the reason for the subsequent remixes, but yeah.

9) Jesse Beats the Hell Out of a Pokemon

Pokemon has always face allegations of animal abuse, but this is the first time I can remember a human actually beating the hell out of one of them. I always wondered why they didn’t do that more often, or how come the Pokemon didn’t realize they could kill all the humans with ease using all their elemental powers because only one guy on the planet owns a gun (see four above).

10) Brock Gets Frisky with a Tree

If you watch Pokemon, you know that Brock is the horniest dude alive. In this video after getting none from anyone for nearly a decade, he breaks down a molests a tree Pokemon.

Clip 1: This whole episode was banned for a long time in the states. It wasn’t until 2000 that they started airing it (with the James scenes cut)

Clip 5: This was also one of the four banned-in-US episodes from the original run (the story of the red/blue games), and one of the two that has remained banned, for obvious reasons. Humorously, this leaves a gaping plot hole in the series, as Ash catches something like 30 Tauros in the Safari Zone, whose later (re)appearance is never explained in the English dub.

Clip 6: Yes, another US-banned episode (the other that has remained banned), and one that hasn’t even re-aired in Japan, either. If you ever noticed the weird slow down in the first season of Pokemon that occurred during electric attacks and other flashy moments, that was editing that was done in response to the seizures caused by this episode. From what I’ve read, the English voice actors have confirmed that 4kids DID make a dub of this episode, but it has never aired.

(The remaining “banned” episode from the original series was the Christmas episode, which was only skipped because it wasn’t Christmas when it came time to air it. They eventually aired it like two or three years later, at Christmas time.)

Clip 7: The only real US-banning past the original run, though Jynx has appeared in other episodes. Interestingly, Jynx isn’t intended to be blackface. She’s actually intended as a mockery of the entirely ridiculous “ganguro” fashion style that was popular among some Japanese girls for a while, which includes heavy tans, light-colored makeup, and bleached hair. Although ganguro certainly resembles blackface, and there is some weight behind the argument that it is derived from it. There are other blackface-style Japanese characters (Mr. Popo from Dragonball, the enemies from LocoRoco), but it’s mostly something the Japanese have picked up from older American cartoons, without full understanding of its meaning.

This is actually the norm in Japanese TV entertainment (as far as the risque content goes anyway). Japanese culture traditionally isn’t as prudish about sexual content or nudity as Western culture is. In fact portraying minors (such as girls as young as 12) as sex symbols in media is common in Japan because the culture considers a girl’s teenage years basically “her prime” in terms of beauty. So while this show may look like it was made by some weirdo, in Japan it’s probably the norm (as creepy as that is).

I lived there for five years when I was a kid and I remember a kid’s cartoon called “Da Ri Mon” (or something similar). A common “plot theme” was a grade school boy (the main character) trying to spy on a girl his age that he had a crush on while she was in the bathtub (who was around his age). They even showed her totally naked from behind in one episode with her bare ass exposed. In Japan though none of this is considered inappropriate for kid’s entertainment (as long as there is no explicit sex or nudity). It’s a very weird culture and I’m glad I don’t live there.

Either way I’m just glad I haven’t watched this crappy show since I was like 13.
