Michel Gondry to Direct The Green Hornet? Weird, But I Like It.
Hollywood Reporter is, uh, reporting that Michel Gondry may direct the on-again-off-again Green Hornet:
Michel Gondry is in negotiations to direct “The Green Hornet,” Columbia’s big-screen treatment of the classic crime-fighting hero being portrayed by Seth Rogen.
The choice of Gondry, the helmer behind off-the-beaten-path films such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Science of Sleep” and “Be Kind Rewind,” signals that the creative direction the studio and the film’s producer, Neal Moritz, are trying to take the project is one not usually associated with the usual crime-fighter movie.
This reminds me of when I first read that Aronofsky was set to direct Robocop. It’s a pairing that you’d never think of, and it doesn’t make much sense, but when you’re dealing with guys as talented as Aronofsky or Gondry, it’s worth a shot. I like just about everything Gondry has done (although I thought The Science of Sleep was kind of meh), and he’s clearly unique and talented, so maybe his version of the Green Hornet will be better than anything Chow would have done. It’ll be very different, that’s for sure. Here’s a cool, clever-but-simple Michel Gondry video where he solves a Rubik’s Cube with his feet (I figured it out, I’m scary smart):
