Why Am I Not Laughing at the Funny People Trailer?

(click here to watch after the jump)
This is Judd Apatow’s third directorial film, despite having his name attached to about 80 other projects in the last five years. His other two films were The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, which were both great. Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, two other recent movies he’s had a heavy hand in have been great. Therefore, this film, Funny People, should also be great, correct? I mean, he’s not M. Night Shyamalan after all.
I just don’t feel it. I chuckled once during the trailer when Leslie Mann is making fun of Eric Bana’s accent, but besides that? I’ve been kind of done with Adam Sandler for a good number of years now, and I’m suffering from Seth Rogen overload these days. I’ve already seen him play with Judd Apatow’s kids in a movie, I don’t need to see it again. And how did we get from stand-up comedy, to death, to not-death, to an Eric Bana backyard wrestling match in the span of three minutes?
I just have a bad feeling about this one, as even Apatow’s trailers are usually gold. Sure I’ll give it a chance, and honestly it’s probably better to have low expectations than high ones (case in point: Pinneapple Express broke my heart), but right now I just see Fonzie heading for the shark.

I agree with you!
well its one of those trailer that make you fell like you’ve
already have seen the film. but I have to say that
it seem’s to dull and depressing to watch…
There’s not a whole lot of funny there.
You do realize it’s not trying to be super funny right? It’s a dramedy.
