In the plot of the book, which I'd read years earlier, the protagonist has been in this horrible accident and burned his face. A kid that he was mentoring was also in the car. There were rumors after the accident that the accident was caused by him HAVING SEX WITH THE KID...So the guy leaves town. Later he meets this other kid, the kid wins his way into the guys heart. AND THEN HE HAS SEX WITH THE KID! Proving that he was indeed a pedophile. But it's a story of redemption...uh..ok. It always interested me that hollywood took a book which glorified pedophilia and decided that it would be okay, as long as they took the pedophilia part out... Lovely.
