The answer? To make money. Oh, OK.

I thought this headline meant they were explaining the controversial screenshot to critics who decry the advent of the ability to sells drugs in a game on a kids’ system (that’d be the DS) like it’s the second coming of Satan. Er wait, did he ever come a first time? But no, **** the haters as always, Rockstar says the reason for the minigames is for your character to make extra money because the mission payments don’t keep increasing exponentially as you go. And presumably you’re just using the money to buy guns and ammo to go kill people with, it’s not like your saving up for your grandma’s hip surgery.

So I’m sure there will be the usual call to kill the game by fire by family action groups, but it will sell an astronomical amount of copies, since it’s one of the best selling series of all time being sold on the best selling system of all time (seriously, look it up). If I were an angry parent, I’d stop protest marching and go check that your kid doesn’t have one stashed under his mattress already. And really, if there’s a system to de-violence GTA, it’s the DS, where graphics go to die. Although I do remember a die-hard contingent of parents hell bent on banning Pokemon for it’s excessive violence towards imaginary animals about a decade ago, so I don’t think that arguments exactly going to fly.
