Morning Link: Steve McQueen Biopic in Development

Mcqueen

This is a great quote from Film School Rejects:

There’s a moment in The Great Escape where you realize that Steve McQueen has been chosen for the role not just because of his sly devil-may-give-a-shit attitude, but also because the man represents America in the purest way possible.

I happen to agree with this sentiment in the biggest way and I’m pumped to see what they come up with here.  Read the rest of Film School’s article.

I have some pretty big concerns about these two movies coming out about Steve McQueen. One is all about his life with his one wife, and I cant think that will be interesting.T

I have some pretty big concerns about these two movies coming out about Steve McQueen. One is all about his life with his one wife, and I cant think that will be interesting. The other one sounds great,but,..I am worried who will play him.Its been put out that Brad Pitt is on,or that Damien Lewis should do it,..or Colin Farrell.Only one could pull it off.Daniel Craig. He has that essence of toughness and cool. Not quite as strong as McQueen, but its there enuff to work.I swear if they put in Pitt,I’ll be ill.

    @ Shiloh

As much as I disliked The Hurt Locker, I thought Renner was terrific…and he, too has been rumored to play McQueen. I think he’d be better than any of the guys you mentioned.

Daniel Craig is too relentlessly hard, clenched and dour to be McQueen. McQueen had that laidback yet super alert air about him that’s pretty hard to beat. And he often had an underlying vulnerability that always brought the audience over to his side. He play it extremely quiet, yet compelling as in “Bullitt”. Now, when Daniel Craig plays it down that much he becomes dull. “Invasion”, “The Golden Compass” – case in point. “Layer Cake” would have caught fire with a ’60s, early 70s star, but the film stays in neutral because of Craig. As Bond, his masculinity is too overt and brutal to be cool. He’s probably the most divisive Bond in the history of the franchise. Nah, I can’t think of a single actor from the current crop who could come close to Mr. McQueen. Leave well alone would be my suggestion.

I think you’re probably right, but what about Clive Owen?
