New Watchmen Footage is a Post Modern Art Exhibit

Published by Paul Tassi at 1:00 pm under Movies, Trailers

The Watchmen footage that was shown at ComicCon has finally been released online, and it’s an understatement to say it looks stunning. However, I’m quite worried of “seeing too much” as I’m looking forward to the movie so much, but it’s clearly attempting to be a shot for shot remake of the comic (which I’ve already read), so really there shouldn’t be any surprises. That is, except for this allegedly “changed” ending that I’m continuing to grow suspicious about.

I was skeptical of the last trailer which included for the first time dialogue, because I’m concerned that Watchmen is going to be all visuals and no substance, which is really the most important part of the comic, and the talkie trailer reinforced that with some awkward lines. This collage-set-to-music has me relaxed once again because it looks amazing, and has no Rorschach/Batman or Manhattan/Melvin dialogue to throw me off. I know Watchmen is going to succeed at a visual level, but then again, so did Speed Racer, and look where that went. Staying true to the source material is a good start, but it’s going to need something….extra to push it over the edge into greatness.
