Unreality’s Bastard of the Week: Michael Scott

Published by Paul Tassi at 2:01 pm under Television

scott

Name: Michael Gary Scott

Show: The Office

Occupation: Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton

Interests: Improv, Sandals Jamaica, jeans, screenwriting, yelling inappropriately, awkward silence, children (in a non-creepy way), Ryan Howard

Dislikes: Toby Flenderson, corporate,  Jan Levinson’s hormones.

Why he’s our bastard: It’s odd putting Michael Scott in this category, because although he’s a bit of an idiot, he’s always been at least well-meaning. But in this week’s Office he crossed a line when he tried to get Toby fired and possibly arrested by planting what he thought was drugs in his desk and calling the cops.

OK, so it turned out to be a Ceasar salad and not weed, but still, the intention was there. This was a dangerous moment for the show, and it’s tetering on the brink of insanity with plot lines like this. The characters of The Office are not cartoons, and the writers would be well off to remember that in future episodes.
