10 Virtual Life Sites That Will Help you Ruin Your Marriage

As I’m quite sure you’ve all heard by now:
A British woman is divorcing her husband after discovering his online alter-ego was having an affair with a virtual woman in the fantasy world of Second Life, media reported on Friday. (here’s the rest of that story).
So is this what the world is coming to? I had no idea that the internet was full of these alternative universes. I assume that eventually there will never be a need to leave the house.
So ladies, guys, here’s another way we can NOT be ourselves and distance from our partners.
10 Virtual Life sites where you can ruin your marriage.
Second Life

Second Life is an internet-based virtual world launched June 23, 2003 and developed by Linden Research, Inc, which came to international attention via mainstream news media in late 2006 and early 2007.
A free downloadable client program called the Second Life Viewer enables its users, called “Residents“, to interact with each other through motional avatars, providing an advanced level of a social network service combined with general aspects of a metaverse. Residents can explore, meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade items (virtual property) and services with one another.
It’s a little more mainstream now!
Multiverse

From the Mulitverse site: Multiverse’s unique technology platform will change the economics of virtual world development by empowering independent game developers to create high-quality, Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) and non-game virtual worlds for less money and in less time than ever before.
In other words, download their software, create a unique, fake profile of yourself, meet people, and eventually cheat on your spouse.
Kaneva

Kaneva was originally founded to develop a massively multi-player online game (MMOG) but its founders perceived a need in the gaming industry for a software solution that would aid in the development of games. In late 2004, Kaneva released the first version of their Kaneva Game Platform that included features to enable professional or independent game developers to develop games
Unlike the more generalized Second Life or the more communication-based IMVU, the Virtual World of Kaneva focuses primarily on virtual shopping and entertainment. In 2008, Kaneva added the ability to view videos both on web profiles and inside 3D televisions in-world.
So basically now you can start your new relationships with people in online fake shopping environments. That’s wonderful.
My Mini Life

“Our goal is to allow anyone to fully express their physical life on the web. It’s as simple as that.”
*And to allow people to cheat on their spouses.
Red Light Center

Red Light Center (RLC) creates a virtual environment that facilitates and encourages human interaction over the Internet in a more natural manner. This is done by creating unique user identities (avatars), allowing natural human interaction models. Blah Blah Blah.
*This site is HARDCORE. It contains explicit sexual content. It’s one of the biggest virtual erotic sites out there. Adults only.
Yeah I’m sure marriages are safe when one of the spouses joins this site.
Lively

A Google creation, Lively is a downloadable virtual world that allows you to create your own virtual space. Ah yes, and of course add your “friends” to your space.
Vivaty

Vivaty Scenes is a web based virtual community where users can personalize their own virtual scene and avatar and socialize with their friends.
Yay! Own a dog so you can meet other people that own dogs, thus faciliating a common interest, thus facilitating an eventual romp fest with someone who isn’t your significant other.
IMVU

IMVU is a new way to hang out and have fun with your friends online! Just like an old-school text-based messenger, you download IMVU’s software onto your PC. But with IMVU you create your own avatars who chat in animated 3D scenes. Check it out and experience 3D chat for yourself!
Yay for chat rooms! Yay for 3D messengers. Yay for infidelity!
There

There is a 3D online virtual world created by Will Harvey and Jeffrey Ventrella. There Inc. was founded in the spring of 1998. Closed beta began in July 2001, with various stages of beta following, and ending with an October 2003 launch date
The virtual world offers a PG-13 environment with built-in filters to block profanity, nudity, pornography and virtual bloodshed.
Members of There.com can participate in activities such as racing vehicles, playing cards, flying, designing homes, playing paintball, hoverboarding and training virtual pets. There is also access to special interest groups devoted to topics including recreation, business, the environment, education and the arts.
And cheating on people!
Active Worlds

The Active Worlds Universe is a community of hundreds of thousands of users who chat and build 3D virtual reality environments in millions of square kilometers of virtual territory.
Wonderful. Let’s cheat on people.
*Descriptions sourced from websites and Wikipedia. The cheating on people stuff is all me.

Second Life is ruining my relationship. I have been in the relationship with the same guy for almost six years. We are a gay couple. he found second life and is now a sex slave in order to get the nice virtual clothing. It is like an egyptian harem of sorts but even worse. He talks sexual he has even told his “masters” he loves them. he tells me to not worry he can determine the difference between sl and rl. he normally ignores me anyways for the most part but now he is ignoring me even more and it hurts. I dont want to leave him as I know I have been with him so long I cant take care of myself on my own. I do love him and I just want him back. Originally he had a porno addiction that stopped for a few months then he went back to porno now I have to contend with porno and second life for his attention. He says he pays attention to me while playing but really just saying two or three words when I ask a question isnt really paying attention is it? If i were a stronger person i would wait until he goes to work and just pack my bags and leave no matter how much I love him just to see if he would come for me. Thing is i have no where to go no friends no relatives that care enough for me because of who i am. I am scared.
This is the way things should be, get off what we are on now
Come on! It depends on your reasons to visit the virtual worlds! After all, if you are aware of the danger and are decided not to cheat, then you won’t.
I developed addiction and had to stop before it was too late. You may ruin your life not only by cheating, by also by losing your time in the virtual world.
If you are strong enough, you can set yourself some limits such as:
a) Don’t cheat.
b) Make a list with what you intend to do and don’t do anything not on the list.
c) Set a reasonable time limit per session, per week and per month. For instance 3h/session, 6h/week, 20h/month
d) Go online together with your S.O. Let him/her know all you do. Enjoy the virtual world together if possible. Use 2 computers in the same room if possible and keep real contact too
Web sites and virtual worlds do not make people cheat. But I guess everyone has to be a victim these days. It’s not my fault a web site made me do it.
IMVU is great. the Ap features, youll love it. Its highly addictive, and yeah I left my hsb x someone I met on there. Once you start to play, you forget its really a game. Try it, and im sorry u lost ur husband.
It’s Totally true. I play in SL (guilty of cheating in world) and just finished a survey: More than half the people in committed relationships end up cheating on their Real Life spouse within SL. Sucks but its true.
I guess people need to learn that cheating is cheating no mather what, whether it’s virtual or not is a non-issue. Maybe 50% of the spouses of SL residents are lucky to find out sooner rather than later how their spouse really is…
Man you must really have some deep seated desire to cheat on your spouse. Kaneva is a great game if you like to create unique environments from art museums to dance clubs. Most people are there to build, design and show off their creative skills. Sure, there are those that have more prurient desires; sounds like you are one of them!
I was wondering if Garry’s mod would be on here, lol
It is quite amusing how many people blame “virtual life” for their failed relationships. If your significant other “cheats” on you in a game then there are other issues there. I doubt that the problem is the game, it is the relationship. The relationship will most likely still fail whether he/she cheated in real life or in virtual life.
To be quite frank, the whole idea of a person getting angry/upset at their spouse for cheating on them on a game is just ridiculous. After all, it’s simply a game. And if the person can’t be faithful in a game, then what makes you think that he can be without it?
Instead of blaming games why not find out what the real problem is and work on it. It’s better than sitting in a chair and trying to find a scapegoat to put all the blame on. And if you can’t fix the problem, then it’s probably not worth fixing.
So do yourself a favour - quit complaining about games and actually try to strengthen your marriage or relationship. Or at least ask yourself “Is this person really worth getting upset over?”
hello there.com is not more is whole shame
