Now, if I had done so, I would have lost a number of different quests, not to mention all the town’s stores and a damn house to call my own. Why would anyone do that, unless they just wanted to see what a mushroom cloud looked like?"Because if you blow up Megaton you get a BETTER house and BETTER stores. It's kind of stupid, really. Not only that, but you get paid a ton, and then can immediately kill the guy who gave you the quest and Tenpenny in broad daylight without anyone noticing and steal all their shit. And somehow, the corpse of this legendary and important man will disappear yet everything will proceed completely normally, with people still talking about him as if he were alive and everything. It's really stupid. I guess that sums up most of Fallout 3, though. In their efforts to make the game realistic by giving you the ability to do anything it actually becomes significantly less realistic than any other game out there.

>”For example, one of my first side missions was to decide whether or not to blow up a dormant nuke in Megaton. People will generally treat you the same as before, even if you kill a number of their townsmen before you bail and return unarmed.I heard that if you nuke megaton, moira and the others survive as ghouls. is that true?

Most towns, if you start a fight by stealing or killing, you can leave town and come back with your weapon holstered to find business as usual. Just south of there you'll find a group of raiders fighting a dog. If you kill them, you can get the dog to follow you.
For some reason it doesn't happen in some peoples' games, but will in a later, random encounter.

Moira, in Megaton, gives you a quest where you have to go into Minefield and disarm a land mine.<br

Mr. Burke will give you a new place to stay at tenpenny tower for it and some caps. And the armory there has superior weapons than megaton IMO.Also, you can steal stuff and pick locks providing your hidden for the negative karma, you can also pick pockets if your skills high enough. Not all NPC's will get mad at you for it, but some will.Speech related karma events usually don't effect the karma much. Kill innocent people will give you large amounts of negative karma.

Actually, when you do all the quests in megaton aside from disarming the bomb, you can blow it up safely.
