Unreal Man Crush: Se7en Reasons Why David Fincher is The Man

Published by Nattyb under Uncategorized

David Fincher

With all the Oscar hype already surrounding The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I’m definitely pulling for David Fincher to win as best director.  He’s clearly demonstrated that he separates himself from the pack with his amazing twists and dark way of telling a story.

Anything I say about his movies will not do them justice because the complexity that seems to go into every little thing he does is unmatched.

I’ve also read a fair amount about Fincher and he’s a man that knows his vision and sticks with it.  He’s a hardass through and through, but it’s obvious that he knows what he’s doing and what we wants.

In fact here are seven reasons why David Fincher is a total stud.

Five Movies and TV Shows This Election Has Tainted Forever

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies,Television

top_gun_1

The results of this next election will change the course of history as we know it. However, it’s also tarnished the way I look at some of my favorite shows and movies. Will they actually be ruined forever, or is there hope that the memories might someday fade?

See the wreckage after the jump:

10 Memorable Movie Suicides

Published by Madison under Movies

suicidetitle.jpg

Now, this isn’t an article about actors like Owen Wilson Jonathan Brandis who actually did kill themselves; rather, it’s a rundown of ten memorable suicides in modern cinema.  And unlike James Vance, these guys got it right.  Some characters off themselves to avoid humiliation, while others do it for a greater good.  Here are ten (or eleven?) characters who decided that living wasn’t an option:

Unreality’s Hero of the Week: Ari Gold

Published by Paul Tassi under Television

ari_gold

Name: Ari Gold

Show: Entourage

Occupation: Partner in Miller-Gold Agency

Interests: Mrs. Ari, Vincent Chase’s career, Ferrari 430 Spyders, berating people because of their height, race and/or sexual orientation

Dislikes: Josh Weinstein, Adam Davies, Billy Walsh, Bob Ryan, Allen, Terrence, Amanda, the list goes on…

Why he’s our hero: Ari would normally find himself winning our “Bastard of the Week” award, but this Sunday he actually showed he doesn’t always have his own best interests at heart.

In what might have been the best Entourage in recent memory, Ari turned down an offer to head Warner Bros, but leveraged the situation in such a way that he got Vince his role in Smokejumpers, Dana Gordon her dream job as studio head, himself a friendly Warner Bros. to work with and Lloyd the chance to say “Whoopie!”

He may be an dick, but he’s an dick with a heart.

Realistically Casting the Gears of War Movie

Published by Paul Tassi under Lists,Movies,Video Games

Gears of War creator Cliff Bles

zinski appears to be slightly delusional when it comes to casting the upcoming Gears movie. Granted any game creator doesn’t want their pride and joy turned into a horrendous movie, but Blezinski should check with the guys behind Doom, Alone in the Dark, Dead or Alive and Max Payne if he wants to see how that usually works out. Here’s an excerpt from his IGN interview where he talks about casting the lead, the refrigerator-esque Marcus Fenix:

“Definitely not a wrestler. I think just go with a real actor…You know… like a Clive Owen type; somebody who can actually act and is incredibly charismatic. And they can put him on a workout plan for six months so he can build the muscle mass he needs.”

Overlooking the fact that Clive Owen would never be in a Gears of War movie even if you paid him all the profits from Gears of War 2, in order to build up the muscle mass required he’d most likely have to undergo some sort of experimental gene therapy, seeing that no living person has biceps as large as their head.So I thought I’d save you some trouble Cliff, and show you what your cast will probably look like unless by some miracle Warner Bros. gives you a $300 million budget and the Cohen brothers to direct. The caliber isn’t what you’d call “A-list” but hey, no wrestlers!

Casting begins after the jump:

Street Fighter IV Coming to Consoles This Winter

Published by Madison under Video Games

sf4.jpg

According to an interview with Yoshi Ono, Street Fighter IV should be on consoles (like the XBox 360 and PS3) sometime this winter.  Now, whether that means December or March remains to be seen, but at least the release date is in the forseeable future.  I have to say, the game looks gorgeous and should be a lot of fun.

Unless, of course, you are playing against someone who uses M. Bison and does his Psycho Crusher over and over and over again.  I hate that cheap crap.  Here are some screenshots from Street Fighter IV.

Ha-do-ken!

11 Movies That Feature Some Pretty Sweet Break Dance Moves

Published by Nattyb under Movies

Breakin

It seems that Break Dancing has definitely found it’s way back into the main stream.  At first it was the early to mid 80′s that saw Break Dancing become an amazing phenomenon.  Somehow I feel like it got lost for a long time.

Sure there are movies with great dancing out there, but as far as battles were concerned, you really didn’t see all that much of that until You Got Served.   Nowadays the moves seem more advanced, but I’m sure the guys of the 80′s could give present day breakers a run for their money.

In any event I went to track down movies that had some pretty sweet break dancing moves in them.

There are 11 that I could find.

“Boondock Saints II” Begins Filming at Long, Long, Long Last

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies

boondock_saints

Why did this take ten years again?

I won’t claim to be an early adopter of Boondock Saints, saying I was one of the three people who actually saw it in theaters and that I liked it before it was cool. No, I watched it about six years ago well after it had garnered a cult following on DVD, and I became just as memorized as everyone else.

The simple premise of “kill everyone evil” was entrancing and felt like an obvious plot no one had really tried before. As I watched the brothers blow the head off a mobster in the middle of a trial, I had one thought in mind. Why haven’t they made a sequel yet?

Unreal Movie Vault: Alligator (1980)

Published by Madison under Movies,Reviews

alligator.jpg

I was just a little kid when my dad let me watch the movie Alligator.  The movie changed my life.  The gore and killing and terror of a gigantic alligator eating people didn’t shock or traumatize me, but rather, it made me want to be an alligator.

I was infatuated with every single aspect of this movie, especially the killings.  Alligator embraces its status as a B-movie, masterfully delivering a dark, tongue-in-cheek humor and still conveying that the danger of a giant killer alligator was very real.

Read my review of this classic after the jump:

“MK vs. DC” Cuts Violence to Squeeze Into T-Rating

Published by Paul Tassi under Video Games

superman

“Lady, you do not want to do that. I swear, if this game wasn’t rated Teen…”

Well, this was probably inevitable, but it’s still sad to hear about nonetheless. Midway is toning down the violence in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe so it can hang on to a T-rating from the ESRB.

The game was always planned to be Teen, because Midway needs a massively large selling hit to remain in business, but the very thought of a PG-13 Mortal Kombat is sacrilege to anyone who grew up playing the blood-soaked game.

The most immediate casualty is the Joker’s fatality which involves a point blank gunshot (video after the jump) and was a wickedly funny finishing move, one that is now only going to take place off camera.

Further cuts will assuredly be equally as lame, and Midway should learn that M-rated games can sell to, just look at Halo, GTA, and COD, just to name a few off the top of my head. But hey, if they make decisions like this, maybe they deserve to go under.
