“MK vs. DC” Cuts Violence to Squeeze Into T-Rating

“Lady, you do not want to do that. I swear, if this game wasn’t rated Teen…”

Well, this was probably inevitable, but it’s still sad to hear about nonetheless. Midway is toning down the violence in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe so it can hang on to a T-rating from the ESRB.

The game was always planned to be Teen, because Midway needs a massively large selling hit to remain in business, but the very thought of a PG-13 Mortal Kombat is sacrilege to anyone who grew up playing the blood-soaked game.

The most immediate casualty is the Joker’s fatality which involves a point blank gunshot (video after the jump) and was a wickedly funny finishing move, one that is now only going to take place off camera.

Further cuts will assuredly be equally as lame, and Midway should learn that M-rated games can sell to, just look at Halo, GTA, and COD, just to name a few off the top of my head. But hey, if they make decisions like this, maybe they deserve to go under.

Watch the dearly departed Joker fatality below:
