Run, You Clever Boy

who

The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who is coming up, meaning I really need to get my ass in gear and finish the series before the special in like what, four days? Yeesh.

I’m probably going to write a longer feature about the series at some point, but to sum it up, I really, really liked the David Tennant years, but I have not like most of the Matt Smith era, and have found it a struggle to get through, even though I only have like four episodes to go in this last season. There’s just something about it I can’t get past.

Anyway, this is a freaking awesome GIF of all the past Doctors from here.

  1. Completely agree about the Matt Smith era. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something is just… off for me. And the 50th is in TWO days! Don’t miss it.

  2. SLOW DOWN!

I completely agree with your feelings on the series, I’m the exact same way. I’ve seen many of the older pre-Eccleston episodes, like the Eccleston ones quite abit, LOVED the David Tennant episodes and have been really struggling getting through the Matt Smith episodes. I really want to see how the story progresses but to me it almost feels like a chore.

I often feel like a geek-pariah for not loving the Matt Smith years. I keep giving it a shot but it’s just missing something. I think Matt Smith is a decent actor but his portrayal of The Doctor to me just feels… soulless for some reason. The 10th Doctor just had so much fun and was a real joy to watch. To me it seems like the 11th is trying too hard to be “goofy” and an “oddball” and isn’t having nearly as much fun as the 10th. There’s just something incredibly satisfying about the 10th Doctor facing an impossible situation and refusing to give in that really sets him apart. ALLONS-Y!

  3. All the River Song pushed it over the edge for me. I really could not believe they were going to keep on with her as much as they did. That entire season was just confusing, the revelation of River Song’s “real” identity was a letdown, and the season finale flat-out cheated to resolve their predicament. In general Matt Smith hasn’t been terrible but I think it was all the writing around him and the weird plotlines they came up with.
